Reading Culture Trailblazer 2023-2024
Congratulations! Our school has been awarded Beanstack’s inaugural Reading Culture Trailblazer badge. As an award recipient, we will receive a Reading Culture Rebate, a $150 gift card redeemable at Amazon, Barnes & Noble, Papa John’s, Dunkin, Target, or Walmart. We will use this rebate to celebrate reading at our school. $150 is the average cost of a pizza party for a classroom that wins a reading competition, so let's see which class will win this month's reading incentive party!
The Reading Culture Trailblazer award is granted to schools that gain over 75% participation in Beanstack each school year. Our school has achieved this milestone, because they believe that we've been using Beanstack effectively to build a culture of reading in our school community.Way to go, Boyd!!!!

The Magical Yet
March's SEL Book of the Month is “The Magical Yet”: Title: The Magical Yet by Angela DiTerlizzi
Overview:
"The Magical Yet" is a heartwarming children's book that follows the journey of a young boy named Yet. Yet encounters various challenges and setbacks, from struggling to tie his shoes to feeling discouraged about not being able to ride his bike. However, with the help of a wise grandmother figure, Yet learns the power of "yet" - the idea that although he may not be able to do something now, with practice, patience, and perseverance, he can achieve his goals in the future.
Ideas for Classroom Use:
1. Growth Mindset Discussions: Use "The Magical Yet" as a springboard for discussions on growth mindset. Encourage students to reflect on times when they've faced challenges and how they can adopt a "yet" mentality to overcome obstacles.
2. Goal Setting Activities: Have students identify personal goals or challenges they are currently facing. Encourage them to write these goals down and brainstorm actionable steps they can take to achieve them. Emphasize the importance of persistence and resilience.
3. Art and Creativity: Engage students in creative activities inspired by the book, such as illustrating their own "yet" moments or creating a classroom mural depicting the power of perseverance. This allows them to visually explore the concept and express their thoughts and feelings.
4. Role-Playing and Drama: Encourage students to act out scenes from the book or create their own skits demonstrating the journey from frustration to accomplishment. This can help reinforce the message of resilience and provide a fun way for students to embody the principles of growth mindset.
5. Writing Prompts: Provide writing prompts that encourage students to reflect on times when they've experienced setbacks and how they overcame them. Encourage them to incorporate the idea of "yet" into their narratives and explore the feelings of hope and determination that come with persevering through challenges.
By incorporating "The Magical Yet" into classroom activities, teachers can help instill a growth mindset in their students and empower them to embrace challenges as opportunities for growth and learning. 📚✨❤️
