Even though it was just a movie, it had large significance to the people of the 1930's and was relateable to the political issues of the time period in a discreet way.

The yellow brick road represents the gold standard, and the gold road leading to power.And the power is held by The Wizard of Oz in Emerald City. Emerald Palace represents the White house, and Emerald city represents Washington D.C.
