Cardinal Parents, Students, and Staff:
"Preparing for the Flood"
There are many ancient myths and stories that reference preparing for a great flood or the coming of a flood. This idea of the flood has served as an archetypal metaphor for the constant potential for some life-changing or even catastrophic event to come our way. We know that there is no real way to dodge tragedy or hardship throughout our lives. In fact, it may be considered naïve to try to live a life avoiding hardship. At some point, we will all face loss, grief, a broken heart, a financial setback, injury, or illness. We should be striving to become the type of person who is capable of struggling forward within and despite our hardships. When the great floods of life come our way, we want to be the person who's been building the boat and learning to swim.

Hey, Seniors!
- Apply Now for 2023-24 Financial Aid
-
A family of four making up to $107,000 may be eligible for aid.
Students who plan to start college next fall can now apply for financial aid for the 2023-24 school year. Education beyond high school is more important than ever. Applying for financial aid gives you more options for the future.
In Washington, there are two ways to apply for financial aid:
- Most people should complete a FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid). The FAFSA is used by U.S. citizens and eligible non-citizens to apply for both state and federal financial aid.
- The WASFA (Washington Application for State Financial Aid) is an application for state financial aid only. The WASFA is for people who are undocumented or who do not qualify for federal aid because of their immigration status, and can be used in limited circumstances by others who cannot or choose not to file a FAFSA.
Applying for financial aid is a crucial first step toward college or job training. Many families assume they won’t qualify, but there’s more help available than ever before. This year, a family of four making up to $107,000 can qualify for financial aid in Washington. The only way to know for sure if you’re eligible is to apply.
Learn more, get support, and apply for financial aid at wsac.wa.gov/apply.

Hey, Cards!
- Here's an important reminder we didn't think we'd have to make: Bathroom stalls are for one student at a time only. If two or more students are sharing a bathroom stall, we are going to assume you are doing something you shouldn't be doing and consequences will be given.

CARDINAL SPORTS!
- WIAA Rule of the Week: Your classroom effort matters! You must be passing 7/8 classes in order to be eligible to participate in athletics. "Once initial eligibility is determined grades will be monitored every two weeks. During the sport season students must be passing 7 classes in a 8 period day. Grades will usually be checked on Mondays. For fall sports the first grade check will be the third week of school. For winter and spring athletes the first grade check will be the second week of the season and will be tied to first quarter and 3rd quarter mid-progress reports respectively."
Winter sports are right around the corner! If you are interested in Girls Basketball, Girls Bowling, Girls Wrestling, Girls Flag Football, Boys Wrestling, Boys Basketball or Boys Swimming get signed up on final forms now! Signing up early is the best way to ensure you are good to go for the first day of practice or tryouts. A sports physical is also needed to participate if you do not already have one on file.

NEW Performing Arts Center!
We are very excited about our new Performance Arts Center! We are in eager anticipation of the day that we can fully showcase the talents of our band, orchestra, choir, drama programs, and so much more!
- Part of the "cost" for a new Performing Arts Center is going to be a little dust, a lot of change, and even a few inconveniences. Please, bear with us as we work through the "under construction" phase with an estimated completion date of the start of the 2023-24 school year.
- Student and Staff Parking: All staff and students must park together in the parking lot alongside 112th St. The section nearest the tennis courts is reserved for staff parking. The section nearest the stadium is reserved for student parking. Students and staff must drive all the way around the school to access the new student/staff parking lot. Please, do not cut through the drop-off and pick-up zone to park.
- AM student drop-off and PM student pick-up and zones. Please, do not park in the drop-off and pick-up zones between 7:30am and 3pm. The drop-off and pick-up zones will be the same for 2022-23 as they were for the end of 2021-22.
- Main Entrance: The former main entrance to the building is no longer accessible. The new main entrance is on the south end of the main building near the student pick-up and drop-off zone.
- Handicapped Parking has been relocated to the stalls in the drop-off zone nearest the new main entrance.
- Bicycle Parking has been relocated to the 1400 building (outside the band classroom).
- Pedestrians in the drop-off and pick-up zone should use the pedestrian walkway along the fence line.
- As with all construction projects, almost everything is subject to change. We appreciate your patience and understanding.
