8th Grade Parents’ Night - Rescheduled
We were disappointed to have to reschedule our 8th Grade Parent Night that was planned for this week, and we apologize for the inconvenience. This night is important and valuable as an introduction to Souhegan and the many opportunities we have to offer our students throughout their high school journey. We look forward to welcoming everyone on our rescheduled date next Wednesday, March 16 from 6:00-8:00PM. Because we believe in the importance of 8th Grade Parent Night in making informed decisions about course selection, we will wait until Wednesday evening to open up the course registration portal and it will remain open until Monday, March 21. Counselors will still visit students at AMS on Friday, March 11 as planned, and we encourage you to talk to your children about what they heard and learned about their course options so you can come on Wednesday with questions.
Senior Project Reminders
Communication has been sent regarding students who did not complete the most recent checkpoint for senior project. Off-campus privileges have been suspended for those students until the work is complete. Please contact your student’s mentor or the senior project coordinators, Ryan Lemieux and Kathy Maddock if you have any questions.
Wednesday, March 23rd, is SAT for our juniors and is a Senior Project off-site work day for seniors. This is in preparation for the next panel meeting checkpoint on the morning of March 30, and provides an opportunity for seniors to meet with their outside experts, travel to research sites, arrange logistics for their applied pieces, or even get caught up if they are currently behind in their work. We would appreciate your help in supporting your student in their efforts to use this time appropriately. Each student should develop a plan as to what they will be doing on this day. Seniors will also be required to show their mentors how they have used their time and what progress they made on their project on this day.
2022 HYPE Conference
HYPE stands for “Hosting Young Philosophy Enthusiasts” and was founded by Souhegan seniors in 2009 as an opportunity for high school students to have meaningful philosophical discussions centered on philosophical topics centered on ethics and civil discourse. The 2022 HYPE conference will focus on relationships and communication: How does our generation create a world where valuable communication and relationships are emphasized? Approximately 800 high school students will discuss this essential question during the annual HYPE Conference hosted by Souhegan High School’s Ethics Forum on March 17, 2022.
HYPE is unique because it is an authentic high school student conference created, designed and led by high school students for high school students. The HYPE project and its affiliated student voice and leadership programs provide students from all over the greater New England region the chance to have discussions at large and small student-led conferences at a number of venues in New Hampshire and Massachusetts. Based on the educational tenets of Souhegan High School, the great tradition of Socratic dialogue endorsed by the University of New Hampshire Durham’s department of philosophy and the directives of St. Anselm College’s ethics and leadership training, students discuss important issues and topics not only with their peers but also with experts who help to shape their ideas and perspectives.
March Resilience Theme
This month the community of Souhegan will focus on the habits of play and creativity and the disposition of courage as we continue to cultivate our collective resilience. Creativity and play unlock inner resources for dealing with stress, solving problems, and enjoying life. When we are creative, we are resourceful, and we problem-solve in new and original ways, which fuels our courage. Souhegan offers a wide range of opportunities for students to engage in play and creativity both in and out of the classroom and courage is one of the three pillars of our school’s mission. We hope that our families can find the opportunity to explore play and creativity together in an effort to reap the many benefits of integrating these activities into our daily lives.
We know that laughter builds our resilience. We know that play boosts our resilience. How can we take our daily activities and add a little more laughter and play into them? How can we engage more in life? Check out this video as you consider the importance of fun in our lives:

STUDENT SERVICES
SAT - The state sponsored SAT will be administered to all juniors on Wednesday, March 23rd. While there is plenty of healthy debate around standardized testing, the SAT is one part of New Hampshire's consolidated state plan that provides information on statewide accountability and improvement, educator support, student success, and assistance to our most at-risk youth. Although the COVID-19 pandemic has led some college institutions to adopt test-optional, test-flexible or test-blind admissions models, these policies vary widely from school to school. While the option to not submit a score may be available, strong test scores continue to be of benefit to students in the admissions process and when determining merit-based aid and scholarships. This test administration is an important opportunity for our students and we plan for full participation. State law, however, does allow for parent exemption on state assessments. Parents who plan to exempt their child, are asked to return this form to Karen Chininis in Student Serviced by March 18th.
Pre-administration session - To prepare for this digital exam, there will be a pre-administration session during advisory between March 15-17. Students will confirm their information and become familiar with the digital interface during this session.
