October 10, 2016
Curriculum Highlights
Math-We will finish up Topic 2 this week. In our remaining lessons we will continue to focus on solving word problems with facts to 10. We will take our end of topic assessment at the end of the week.
Social Studies-We will continue our long-term study of community. This week we will discuss living, working, and playing in a community.
Faith In First
First graders this week in Religion class had an opportunity to thank God.......for the many people and gifts that have been given to them. Wow! If first graders can be thankful to those around them, so can we. This Sunday's gospel was the story of the Ten Lepers. Jesus healed all ten gladly and joyfully. But only ONE returned to thank Jesus for his healing.
Each day we have the opportunity to thank God for something. The mountains and hills, oceans and valleys, sky and sun.... especially each other. We have been richly blessed by God and we need to remember to be thankful. Let's hug our children and tell them how much we love them. Let's thank God for the gift of life in these little ones.
MJS All American Donut Election
As we all know, November 8th marks our next American presidential election. We are going to celebrate this important milestone by having our own election. MJS students will vote to decide what is "The All American Donut.” We are using this analogy to teach the election process through school families and morning prayer. The students will see the good Ol’ American democracy in action as we vote on election day!
