Upcoming Events & Information for Pleasantdale Families
A Note from the Principal's Office
December 16, 2018
Dear PES Families,
With just one week of school left before Winter Break, there is excitement in the air! Students and teachers alike are all buzzing with the excitement that this time of year brings. I want to wish each of you and your families good wishes for whatever holiday your family celebrates at this time of year. I wish each of you peace, joy, and the love of family and friends.
Did you know? Pleasantdale Elementary has had its own Escape Room adventure? An escape room, also known as an "escape game, “ is a physical adventure game in which players solve a series of puzzles and riddles using clues, hints, and strategies to complete the objectives at hand. Players are given a set time limit to “escape the classroom!” This year 4th graders in Mrs. Crist's and Mrs. DuVall’s classes have participated in 3 escape room adventures using skills they have learned in class. To date, the escape room adventures have included using our knowledge of prime and composite numbers, volcanoes, and tectonic plates. Just listen to what the kids have to say! Mallory says, “ I love escape rooms! They are a lot of fun and are challenging. It is also fun to work with people from my class. In the end, if you have escaped, you feel so proud and if you didn’t escape, you still know you tried your best.” George says, “They are so challenging and are a great learning experience. I always learn something new!” Do you think you could have escaped?
- 1st and 2nd Grade Winter Sing is Tuesday night beginning at 7pm. Once again the District will be providing a free shuttle bus between Pleasantdale Middle School and Pleasantdale Elementary School. The shuttle runs will begin at 6pm and run in a constant loop bringing families to PES. Due to parking limitations at PES, families are encouraged to park at the Middle School and not worry about finding a spot at PMS. As a reminder, in the front lot, parking is permitted in identified parking spaces only. This will allow the shuttle bus and any needed emergency personnel full access to our building. Your cooperation is appreciated. Limited parking will be available in the back lot as well. All overflow traffic will be directed to the Middle School.
- Winter Break is coming! Please mark your calendars. School is closed from December 24-January 4th. We look forward to everyone's return in the New Year. Limited office hours will be available during the break. Parents are encouraged to call first before making a stop to our school office.
- Holiday Parties are this week. Room Parents have been busy planning fun activities for each class. Please remember that our school policy is that no food is served during holiday parties. Please save any special treats you may have for home celebrations.
- Snow gear is required for students to play in the snow. This includes snow pants and boots, along with a coat, hat, and mittens. Students without boots and snow pants will be limited to areas of the blacktop and playground without snow. If you need assistance getting snow pants and/or snow boots for your child(ren) please contact me, or Mrs. Dassinger, Social Worker, for assistance. We will be happy to help you.
- Labels help identify a child's belongings when they end up in Lost and Found. Please make sure to label snow gear, shoes, hoodies, etc. We have a growing collection of water bottles, hats, gloves, hoodies, and much more. Please remind your child to check lost and found for their things.
For our students,
Ms. Tomei
