AEHS Weekly Newsletter
April 14, 2024
Good evening, Titans!
Happy Sunday! I truly hope you all took an opportunity to get outside and enjoy the weather today!
We are finally in the fourth quarter of the school year and there are so many amazing things going on at Einstein and around MCPS. Please stay plugged into our weekly newsletter, the school website, and Remind messages we send out. This is the time of year when we have many events and activities going on and send out a number of correspondences to keep you updated, but with all that is going on, we recognize that it is also easy to miss a message.
Photos will come soon, but I want to share that we had an AMAZING time during the Taste of Einstein Friday. This is always an amazing opportunity for our staff, students, and families to showcase the diversity of Albert Einstein High School. Not only did we have great food, we had fantastic performers (students and staff), face painting, games, and the list goes on. It was truly an amazing time! We look forward to holding this event again next year and we hope you are able to join us. A huge thank you to Ms. Pero and the team of staff she gathered so this event can take place year after year.
Unrelated to Einstein, tomorrow, April 15 is the last day to file your taxes for 2023. If you do not have time to file, you can request an extension online. 🙂
Have a great week!
Mark Brown, Jr.
Principal

Titans Fiesta Balloons (REPEAT)
Our LFI school business is selling balloons throughout the end of the year for events such as Birthdays, Prom, Mother's Day, and Graduation.
It is a not-for-profit business which provides opportunities for our students to learn about employment skills, the ins and outs of running a business, and supported employment within a school setting. Students sell, assemble, create, and deliver all products you see on our website. If you are considering purchasing any type of balloons for events at/for the school, please consider using Titans Fiesta Balloons for your needs. See our website or Google order form for more information or reach out to Kim Gagen directly.

Towing to begin after spring break (REPEAT)
Due to the vast number of unauthorized vehicles parked on campus, beginning Tuesday, April 2, vehicles that are not authorized to park on campus will be towed. Vehicles will be given two warnings not to park on campus, and will be towed on the third violation.
- 1st Violation - Vehicles will receive a written notice on the windshield and the vehicle's make and model, and license plate will be recorded internally
- 2nd Violation - Vehicles will receive an orange violation sticker on their rear window. The vehicle's make and model, and license plate will be recorded internally
- 3rd Violation - The vehicle will be towed to Henry's Wrecker Service (see below)
- Misc. Incidents - Vehicles parked in handicap parking without the proper hang tags, that block fire hydrants or parked in fire lanes, or that block other vehicles in, are subject to being towed without warnings
While we do not desire to tow any vehicles, the vehicles that are parked without authorization are preventing AEHS and MCPS staff and visitors who are authorized to park, from parking on campus.
Please Note: Vehicles that are not authorized to park on campus are not registered with AEHS. Therefore, we do not know who these vehicles belong to. Therefore, we are also unable to contact parents of students who might own these vehicles to warn them about the vehicle being parked without permission. We will, however, make every effort to identify and contact owners prior to receiving a 3rd violation, but this may not be reasonable in most cases.
Please Also Note: Towing will begin April 2. The 1st warning, however, has already been giving to some drivers, which has been shared in previous newsletter. Additionally, only authorized/registered vehicles may park along the "strip," which is the sidewalk along Newport Mill Park. This is also on campus parking and is reserved for staff.
Asynchronous Learning Day Monday April 22 (REPEAT)
Dear MCPS Families,
This message is to inform you that Monday, April 22 will shift to an asynchronous learning day for all students. The day is designated as a professional development day for teachers and possible make-up day for students in the 2023-2024 Traditional School Year Calendar. Students will engage in learning experiences and complete work asynchronously.
Asynchronous learning allows for flexibility for students to complete assignments with or without the use of technology. Additional time for students to complete assignments is granted for challenges or unforeseen circumstances.
District leaders and central services staff have been planning and communicating with school leaders in preparation for the asynchronous learning day on April 22. Schools will share more details about their asynchronous virtual instruction plans with students and families in mid-March, including directions on how to access resources and additional services.
This day will remain a professional learning day for teachers who will participate in self-directed learning and planning. Telework will be permitted. In addition, teachers will have time to engage in the asynchronous professional learning module with a focus on the Equitable Teaching and Learning Framework. More information will be provided to staff in the upcoming weeks.
There have been three inclement weather school closures so far in the 2023-2024 school year—Jan. 16, Jan. 17 and Jan. 19. The Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE) provides the ability to repurpose certain days as virtual school days, including inclement weather days and staff professional learning days. MCPS has a built-in contingency plan that allows for two emergency school closures needed to make up the third emergency school closure day.
*Note: The calendar for the Innovative Schools, Arcola and Roscoe R. Nix elementary schools, does not change for Monday, April 22, 2024. It remains a non-instructional day for students and a professional learning day for teaching staff.
