Monday Memo
April 15, 2019
Great things!
Happy birthday to our April Birthday friends! They had a great time taking their picture and always love Ms. Kathy's yummy birthday cookies!
If you haven't noticed them-stop by and check out student work/creations on the top of the cubbies outside Natasha's classroom. What creative objects they made!
Shandi was surprised with her sprinkle last week! Thank you to our social committee for pulling it together and for everyone pitching in to make it a special celebration for "the baby who is yet to be named" and Shandi too!
Thank you to Brie for recording announcement videos for me on Friday when I was unable to get it done! That was so helpful!
Challenge: This week you have four to five days with students to be that adult/teacher/person our kids will remember. "5 days, 5 unique acts of kindness. You don't have to buy anything or build anything... but you do have to be INTENTIONAL. " What will you do this week to be intentionally kind to someone? --taken in part from Joe Sanfelippo's tweet
Dates to remember:

Nuts-n-Bolts:
* The announcements for the week are loaded into the shared file. Natasha's p.m. class is featured this week.
*Websites were due to be updated by the end of the day this past Friday. I only heard from about 4 people that they did this. If you updated but forgot to email, please email me; if you have not updated-please do so no later than the end of the day Monday the 15th and email me when you have done so.
*The sun is shining! Let's get the kids outside-even if the playground is wet-take a walk around the blacktop, take out a bucket of balls to play with, get out and enjoy the fresh air! We all need it!
*The National Honor Society kids from CW will be coming over for about an hour on April 19 in the morning. I believe there are 5 kids-so be thinking if you have a project they could help your class with-such as cleaning our garden areas, a spring craft, etc. They love to work with our kids; looking forward to having them again! Let me know if you would like one of them in your room!
*As you see above-we will be having class pictures this year! Tressie sent out an email with times/details. Be sure to have your list available and know who is not allowed to be in group pictures. Those students may not be in our class pictures since they will be going out to other parents. If you need someone to stay back with kids in your classroom- please let me know and we will round up some coverage to help out with that. All teaching staff that is assigned to the classroom will participate in the pictures.
*I know with the nice weather-a lot of us have been opening windows in our classrooms and offices. Please remember to pull them shut and latch them when you leave for the evening. This helps keep our building safe and secure. **This includes the teacher's lounge--if you eat lunch in there and open a window-please pull it shut when you leave.
* April library book shelving duty: Shannon
Speech/Language Tip of the Week:
Play an ‘I Spy’ game with your kids. You can play in your classroom, in the hallway, in the library, while you are lining up, or whenever you want to take a quick learning/language break. ‘I Spy’ activities are great for helping kids to use inferencing skills - which improves verbal reasoning abilities. Teach your kids how to give clues and then see if your kids can give the clues for others to guess what they ‘spy’.
Fine Motor Tip of the Week:
Fine motor skill of opening/closing containers:
Place several different lunch containers in a basket or bin with lids removed. Mix them up and see if kids can find matching lids to twist and snap on the correct containers. Great way to also build independence.
