QOHS Weekly Newsletter
Weekly updates & information for Students, Staff & Families
April 14, 2024
Dear Quince Orchard Students, Staff, and Families,
As we move through a bustling month at Quince Orchard HS, there are several key events and updates I'd like to share with everyone.
QO's Production Premiere of "Chicago- Teen Edition" :
Our theatre, cast, crew, and pit production of "Chicago-Teen Edition" was absolutely fantastic! Our students are truly remarkable and a huge congratulations to Ms. Vogel, Teacher Land, Ms. Kleiner-Vilgos, and Mr. Henry for their leadership, support, and creativity in making the show a huge success.
Prom Night - Friday, April 19 at Pinstripes
Our much-anticipated prom is just around the corner on Friday, April 19, at the Pinstripes. This event promises to be an exciting evening where memories will be created. As we look forward to the festivities, I urge all our students to make responsible and safe choices.
Please remember:
- Transportation: Arrange your transportation ahead of time to ensure safe arrivals and departures.
- Conduct: School rules and expectations remain in effect; please behave responsibly and respectfully.
- Substance Use: Alcohol and other illegal substances are prohibited; please make wise choices. If students are suspected to be under the influence, we have the right to not allow entrance to the Prom and caregivers will be contacted to ensure students are safe.
We trust our students will represent QO with integrity and respect.
Prom Ticket Reminder: A quick reminder to our students: don't forget to purchase your prom tickets! Tickets will not be sold at the door.
Booster Club Meeting - Wednesday, April 17
I would also like to remind everyone of our Booster Club meeting this Wednesday, April 17, at 7:00 PM in the school media center.
Looking Ahead:
Asynchronous Learning Day on April 22nd: Please mark your calendars for April 22nd, which will be an asynchronous learning day for students. This is a valuable opportunity for independent study and reflection.
Save the Date: Annual Art Show - April 23 & 24
Mark your calendars for our Annual Art Show on April 23rd and 24th. This event is a celebration of the incredible artistic talents of our students. The show will be held in the gymnasium and open to the public from 5-7 pm on both days. Come experience the creativity and hard work of our students as they display their artworks.
Testing Schedule Review: As we approach upcoming spring testing season, we have state and local assessments for students as well as AP exams. It's essential for students, staff, and caregivers to review the testing schedule and any modifications that have been made. Preparation is key, and we're here to support you every step of the way.
Importance of Regular Attendance and Safety Focus: Regular, on-time attendance is crucial for student success. Additionally, safety and security remain at the forefront of our priorities. As recently communicated by MCPS, adherence to the Student Code of Conduct is essential for maintaining a safe and conducive learning environment. This comprehensive approach ensures that our school remains a place where every student can thrive. If you have not reviewed the student code of conduct, please find it in the student handbook on our website.
As we navigate through the final stretch of the school year, let's remain focused, motivated, and supportive of one another. Together, we can accomplish great things.
Thank you for being a wonderful community and always remember…We can’t hide our Cougar Pride!
All the best,
Elizabeth L. Thomas

A message will be automatically sent when a student is absent for three, five and 10 days during the quarter. The messages are designed to be informative, culturally competent, empathetic and supportive. A student is considered chronically absent if they are absent 10 percent or more of the days they are enrolled. Remember, school staff are always available to help remove any barriers to your children’s attendance.

Please review the criteria established by the College Board for requesting testing accommodations:
https://accommodations.collegeboard.org/request-accommodations/request
Please follow the link below to identify the process for submitting a request for ACT Test Accommodations and English Learner Supports:
https://www.act.org/content/act/en/products-and-services/the-act/registration/accommodations.html
**Please note that students who have an Individualized Educational Plan (IEP) or a 504 Plan are not guaranteed that College Board or ACT will provide accommodations. The College Board requires current neuropsychological testing (within the past three years) which documents the specific need for each requested accommodation.
All IEP students should work with Ms. Samantha Carter to complete the accommodation request(s) and students with a 504 Plan should work with Ms. Rossini or Ms. Jessica Conter.
Please contact Ms. Jessica Conter, Resource Counselor in the Counseling Office (240-740-3620) if you have any further questions about this process.
