North Glendale Family Update
January 2, 2022
Good morning!
Second semester ~ here we GO!
I hope your Winter Break was exactly what your family needed. We snuck in a trip to Wisconsin to see family and managed to get all of my mom's grandchildren in the same space for a few hours ~ tough with teenagers, so we call that a WIN!
In case you did not see it ~ here is a link to the KSD Spotlight from December 30 which outlines changes in our back to school plans: Due to updated CDC guidance, rising cases in our region, and increasing pediatric hospitalizations, we will be requiring masks in all Kirkwood schools starting with the return from winter break.
At NG, we will continue with our safety protocols including hand sanitizing, barriers at lunch, limiting visitors to our front office and frequent hand-washing. Thanks for your support as we navigate this latest development in the pandemic.
As always, please reach out to talk through anything on your mind!

As we have not been able to have folks in to look through the stuff, we will hold off on donating things until we are able to have visitors in to check it out.
NG Parent Equity Group ~ Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
King’s birth name was Michael, not Martin.
The civil rights leader was born Michael King Jr. on January 15, 1929. In 1934, however, his father, a pastor at Atlanta’s Ebenezer Baptist Church, traveled to Germany and became inspired by the Protestant Reformation leader Martin Luther. As a result, King Sr. changed his own name as well as that of his 5-year-old son.
King entered college at the age of 15.
King received his doctorate in systematic theology.
After earning a divinity degree from Pennsylvania’s Crozer Theological Seminary, King attended graduate school at Boston University, where he received his Ph.D. degree in 1955.
Cold weather is here!
NG Sacks of Science Team
STEAMFest: The application deadline has been extended and is now due Friday, January 7, 2022. Science projects will be due February 16, 2022. Application required for upload consists of the Research Plan and Safety Form (kirkwoodschools.org/STEAMFest) and must be submitted through the student’s email. Research Plan, Safety Form, and directions to access the student’s email are linked here.
STEAMFest projects this year are virtual and can be submitted in PowerPoint or pdf form. We’ve confirmed pdf can be pictures of project tri-fold boards converted to pdf. If the student is more interested in completing a STEAMFest project in a more typical science fair manner with the trifold boards, this can done as an alternate to PowerPoint. We are hopeful to be able to display completed projects at North Glendale in the spring. See more details in the attached. Please reach out with questions or if you need help with logbook or trifold board display purchases (Erin Jearls, 573-247-2125).
KINDERGARTEN 2022-2023!
We will begin enrolling kids for our 2022-2023 class or Kindergarten in January. This is a very important process as it is the foundation of our personnel decisions. We really need as accurate a number as early as possible. Want to get a head start or just know what info to collect for the process? See the Kindergarten registration page on the KSD website!
