Mrs. Geurin’s Classes
8th grade will complete their module on relationships among linear equations and then move into fitting linear functions to data, discrete linear functions, and piece-wise defined functions. They will then move to their new unit covering systems of linear equations, linear inequalities, exponential functions and models, and relationships among exponential functions . We hope to end the year with a unit on exponential functions and models.
Science
After completing their STEM project, the 7th graders have moved back into our science curriculum studying populations, communities, and ecosystems. Upon completion they will begin a study of distribution of natural resources, human impacts on the environment, waves and electromagnetic radiation, and electricity and magnetism to complete the year.
Mrs. Bradley’s Classes
8th grade will work toward answering their essential question: How do challenges you face today help to shape your future? As part of this unit students will write an argument piece. Then, we will start our novel study. We will be reading Within Reach: My Everest Story.
Social Studies
8th grade will study about the changes in our country during the years between 1877 to 1921. They will explain how specific needs resulted in scientific discoveries and technological innovations in agriculture, the military, and medicine. They will describe the effect of technological innovations in the workplace such as assembly line manufacturing and robotics. They will also analyze how scientific discoveries, technological innovations, space exploration, and the application of these by the free enterprise system improved the standard of living in the United States , including changes in transportation and communication.
