Summit Student Projects
6th Grade: For this project, students wrote a sequel to the children's book If You Hopped Like A Frog. In the original, the author David Schwartz describes a number of scenarios where humans would have supernatural abilities if they had a certain animal qualities. Students compared these animals to themselves using ratios and proportions.
7th Grade: For this project, students illustrated a geological process showing the beginning, middle, and end of that process by creating a comic strip.
8th Grade: Students created a model that demonstrated the cross section of rock layers. They were to model the processes that create rock layers (heat, pressure, intrusion, extrusions, earthquakes, erosion, etc.) and use various types of cake, frosting, and objects to show different rock layers, fossils, etc.

Holiday Help: Donations & Volunteer Opportunities
The holiday season is upon us and there is no better time to give to those in need. Around this time of year, non-profit organizations are in crucial need of donations and volunteer help for the upcoming Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays. Families and individuals in our local area need assistance, and there are quite a few organizations near you that could use your help to give to these people. Here are just some of the few organizations you could donate to, or volunteer at, during this year’s holiday season:
- Parish Kitchen: Located in Covington, KY, this organization has been serving all who enter a lunch time meal, free of charge, for over 40 years now. Their doors are open 365 days out of the year. This organization would appreciate food donations, but most importantly, volunteer help to serve the near 200 people daily who come through to get a hot meal during the holiday season. For more information and contact information, please visit http://www.covingtoncharities.org/parish-kitchen
- Master Provisions: Located in Florence, KY, Master Provisions is a faith-based organization that provides food, clothing and orphan care in the U.S. and around the world. Volunteers make this program possible, so they would love the extra help around the upcoming holidays. To donate or volunteer, check out their website at http://www.masterprovisions.org/
- Brighten Center: Brighton Center, located in Newport, KY, wraps a community of support around individuals and families by tackling the issues that prevent people from becoming self-sufficient, removing the barriers they face, and creating hope so that goals can be achieved and dreams realized. This organization has a great holiday drive that ranges from gift giving wish trees, to donating blankets to the seniors who reside in their senior buildings. Their website is very helpful with specific contact information about the holiday drive. Visit http://www.brightoncenter.com/get_involved/holiday-drive
For more information on places you can donate or volunteer for this upcoming holiday season, please visit the website http://www2.cincinnati.com/unitedway/go_holiday.html for holiday help opportunities. This site provides a list of organizations around Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky that could use assistance and donations. The locations, contact information, and what is needed for each organization is provided. Have a wonderful Holiday season!!!
