Notes and Reminders
Daniel Warren Peace Garden- Save the Date!
Please join us on April 11th at 3pm to Wake up the DW Peace Garden. I look forward to seeing many of you at this yearly event to help us prepare for our spring plantings and our new "kitchen garden!" We're watching the weather, so stay tuned if there is an update!
Solar Eclipse- April 8 πβοΈπ
The upcoming total solar eclipse on April 8 is a unique opportunity for engaging in science education. We are in the partial eclipse path! Our students learn about the phases of the moon...and this outdoor experience will share how the clockwork-like motion of the sun and moon produce eclipses.
The district has purchased viewing glasses for all students and faculty.
Please see our updated dismissal information:
Solar Eclipse - Dismissal Times as follows~*Please use eclipse glasses if viewing the sun!
Kindergarten with 1st/2nd Gr. Siblings at 2:30
- First and Second Grade at 2:45 (Siblings with 1st grader)
- PTSA after school will NOT take place. Clubs will begin on Tuesday and the April 8th class will be made up at the end.
- Rye Y after school care will meet in the auditorium and will bus to Bellows for an inside plan during the time of eclipse.
- Teachers may choose to take their class outside prior to dismissal and will direct students to have glasses on when looking at the sun. Safety is a priority. When wearing the glasses you are unable to see where you walk- so they're off when walking/dismissing (not looking at sun as we typically wouldn't) and worn when viewing. If you would prefer your child not to go outside, please email your child's teacher so they can arrange an alternate plan.
- If you would like to pick up your child early from school, please let your child's teacher and the main office know.
- If you are opting out of after school on Monday, please inform the program along with your teacher and the main office.
If you need more information about this once-in-a-generation event, visit iloveny.com/eclipse.
Eclipse Safety Video
We'll be sharing this video that two second grade "reporters" assisted making with me to all the students on Monday. Feel free to use it at home, too!
ARRIVAL AND DISMISSAL SAFETY REMINDERS
Daniel Warren Students need to be escorted to our sidewalk to enter school each morning. Faculty are reporting students walking across Harrison and across the DW driveway alone, and at times not using the crosswalk. We want to ensure that no student is injured- we have had a few close incidents with car traffic. Please supervise and escort your children.
Please only use the crosswalks to walk over the driveway. This will ensure that drivers stop and see you safely. *This also models pedestrian safety that we hope to instill in our students.
Do not park your car on Harrison Avenue- it is illegal and you can be ticketed. It also makes it difficult for cars to go around and exit the DW driveway safely.
No idling. Please see the memo that is from the Village of Mamaroneck Police Dept. The driveway is open at 8:25 for arrival and 2:40 for dismissal. If you arrive early, you must turn off your carβs engine.
Spotlight on Learning
Second grade concluded their Realistic Fiction writing unit. Students self reflected on their work and wrote sticky notes of what they were proud of in their writing. Students then shared their stories and gave compliments to classmates!
In the Community
Rye Neck has a new kid on the block - the Rye Neck School Foundation (RNSF)! The RNSF will accelerate excellence at our schools by funding state-of-the-art projects and programs that amplify the educational, artistic and athletic experiences of Rye Neck students.
Please join members of the RNSF, Administration, and BOE at 25 North Restaurant on Monday, May 6th from 6:30-8:30pm to learn more about the foundation and enjoy complimentary hors d'oeuvres and drinks. To get involved and to participate in the RNSF's two new fundraising campaigns - the Golden Ticket Raffle and "Panther Paver" brick project - please also visit www.ryeneckschoolfoundation.org.
