About Yellowstone National Park
Yellowstone National Park is located in Wyoming, Montana, and Idaho in the western United States. It is usually 0-20º in the winter and 70-85º in the summer. There are lots of beautiful waterfalls. There are also lots of geysers that formed from a volcano, which erupted 600,000 years ago, and made Yellowstone. Old Faithful, Yellowstone’s pride and joy, erupts every 91 minutes. Snow starts to fall in late September. During the winter, the park is often covered with snow. Unlike our weather, snow melts in May.

How Geysers are Formed
Geysers are holes in the ground that hot water erupts out of. There are lots of volcanic geysers in Yellowstone. An eruption formed a 28-by 47-mile basin. The crust was thin there, making geysers. Geysers form when water goes into cracks in the crust. The heat underground creates extreme pressure which forces the water up out of the ground.
