What is Checks and Balances?
Checks and balances is the division of power between the branches of government(Legislative, judicial, and executive). The Legislative Branch has the powers to make the laws.Congress leads this branch of government (House of representatives and the senate.)The Senate must ratify all treaties by a two-thirds vote. Both parties in the Senate and the House of Representatives elect leaders. The Executive Branch is given the power to carry out the laws. The authoratative person for this branch is the appointed president. The President approves and carries out laws passed by the legislative branch.The Judicial Branch is given the power to understand the laws. The authoratative persons' of this branch are judges (Appointed for life), and lower federal courts.The Supreme Court rules whether something is constitutional or unconstitutional.
