Preparing to Return March 2021
Richmond Heights Upper Scool
Spartan Nation,
The time has come for us to finally receive our students back to the NEW Upper School. Unfortunately COVID and construction has caused us to start later than anticipated, nevertheless, we are ready to go!!! We will be opening our doors for students on March 29, 2021, beginning with Grades 7th and 8th. There are a few things we want to remind you of as we transition back. They are as follows:
- 15:1 Student/Teacher Ratio- We are maintaining a student/teacher ratio of 15 students to 1 teacher to ensure the safety of our staff and students. When we surveyed parents in November, we asked of your educational preference (in-person or remote). If you selected Remote, your child is NOT included in our return to in person instruction numbers. Parents wishing to change and send their students back must contact the building office and be placed on our "wait list" and will be contacted if and when we have space.
- Remote Learning- Parents wishing to keep their students home will have the ability to continue the same mode of learning they are currently engaged in. Students must follow their schedule and zoom into their class as teachers instruct both at home and in person students.
- Schedule- Students will primarily follow the same schedule they have been on for the entire school year with a few minor adjustments. The in person school day will be from 8am-1:15pm
- Transportation- The district has amended its transportation policy. Students living within 1/2 mile radius WILL NOT qualify for school transportation. If you are unsure if this affects your child, please contact the Transportation Department @ 216-692-8021.
- Staggered Start- We will begin with our 7th and 8th grade students returning first and then we will welcome our 9th- 12th grade students the week after.
I know this is a lot of information but one thing COVID has taught us is that we can make it through anything together...

COVID-19 School Protocol
At Home Screening:
Students must be screened at home, prior to coming to school.
Guardians can use the Home Screening Tool on Nurse’s Clinic Site, and any thermometer they have on hand.
If a child has symptoms congruent with COVID-19, the child should be kept at home, and the nurse should be notified of the COVID-19 concern.
A child with symptoms will need to remain quarantined at home for a full 10 days, and until completely free of symptoms.
If a child has been out of town, they must quarantine for 14 days before returning to the building, symptom free.
- If a child displays concerning symptoms while in class, the teacher will access the Nurse Clinic Request form on the Clinic Site.
The nurse will then prepare the Spartan Covid Assessment Response Evaluation (CARE) Room, retrieve the child from the class, take them directly to the Spartan CARE Room, and assess.
If the child is confirmed to have symptoms congruent with COVID-19, his or her guardian will be contacted and they will have 30 minutes to an hour at the most to come pick up the student.
Once the child is taken home, the child’s Primary Care Provider should be contacted by the guardian and further orders will be given.
Any child with symptoms, regardless of COVID-19 confirmation, will need to remain at home for 10 days before returning to the building.
If the child is tested, they are not to return to the building unless they receive a negative test result, and after a full 10 days at home.
If the child is not tested, and there has been no known contact with someone who has tested positive, the child may only return to the building when all signs and symptoms have resolved, and after a full 10 days at home.
If the child is not tested, but there has been recent known contact with someone who has tested positive, the child will need to quarantine at home for 14 full days, starting from the last point of contact with the positive person.
If a child’s guardian has been contacted and the child still has not been picked up, the next step will be to call an ambulance to transport the child to get checked at the nearest ER.
If you have any questions regarding our COVID protocols, please contact our District Nurse- Hannah Brown @ brown.hannah@richmondheightschools.org.
Remote Learning Expectations
For students remaining home, we wanted to be sure to provide our Remote Learning Expectations regarding instruction and communication with our teachers.
RICHMOND HEIGHTS LOCAL SCHOOL DISTRICT
Online Learning Option A
Based on our survey results from November, student cohorts have been created for “In-Person” Instruction and MAY NOT be changed. Students choosing to remain remote will have to maintain that status until the end of the 2020-2021 school year.
If you select to keep your child remote (at home learning) instead of sending them back to “In- Person” Instruction, our method of instructional delivery will be as follows:
Instruction will be delivered by Richmond Heights teachers.
Instruction will take place during school hours according to your child's building schedule.
Zoom live streaming and Google Classroom will be the primary resources used to deliver instruction.
The live streaming camera will face the front of the classroom (unless the teacher does otherwise)
To limit background noise interruptions during class instruction, students on Zoom will be muted.
Students can communicate with their teacher using the “Chat” and the teacher will respond when practical.
Students will be able to view what students in the classroom are seeing via the Zoom screen but not other students.
Teachers will maintain their current mode of communicating their weekly academic schedule in Google Classroom that explains the week's activities and which days the live streams will occur. Students will join the class through Zoom on those days during the designated class period. If students are unavailable during that period, a parent must inform the school of their absence and the student must complete all of the missed classwork which will be posted to Google Classroom.
Students learning from home will receive instruction in quantities similar to students learning at school that are in-person. Students must follow their schedule that mirrors in person instruction.
Teachers will host zoom meetings with their online learners on Wednesdays. Teachers will post their schedule and reach out to families to set up meeting times.
Students who have unexcused absences will not receive “re-teach” sessions during this time.
Parents should reach out to teachers individually to set up meetings as well.
