Sandwich High School News
November 2020
Dear SHS Community,
As the weather starts to turn and we enter the fall season, we also conclude the first quarter of the 2020-21 school year. Please note that the end of the first quarter was Friday, Oct. 23. Progress reports are available on Tyler.
Students on Edgenuity will have a quarter grade listed which will reflect a student's progress as of the morning of Friday, Oct. 23; however, the final transcript includes only semester grades. For Edgenuity, the semester grade will be the final grade posted in December. If a quarter grade for Edgenuity looks low, it is most likely not the quality of work, but the amount a student finished in comparison to what a student was expected to finish. I am happy with any parent/guardian/student coming to school for me to explain grading. I can be available any day of the week.
Parent/Teacher Conferences have been scheduled for Monday, Nov. 23, and Tuesday, Nov. 24. Please email or call the school to set up a conference with your child's teachers. You should go to the following link to email each teacher:
https://shs.sandwich430.org/home
Once you get to the SHS home page, staff and academics is the tab you will need to use for locating your child's teachers.
The newly adopted Spring 2021 semester calendar can be found at the bottom of this page.
Stay safe.

SLIP
The SLIP program is an action-based, high school adventure program designed for students who are service-oriented and want a multicultural experience that often demands that you leave your personal comfort zone. Paired with personal growth and leadership development, the program puts a strong emphasis on environmental ethics and attitude building. The primary goal of SLIP is to teach leaders of tomorrow how to get along and work effectively with others regardless of race, gender, ethnic or socio-economic background. The program uses experiential and adventure education techniques to reach these goals and teach leadership, creative problem solving and interpersonal skills.
SLIP students met in downtown Oswego with their peers from Oswego, Oswego East, Yorkville and Plano. The students participated in a canoe trip as their initial outing this year. The goal of the day was to explore new and different environments and interact with each other. It promotes the group-building process by encouraging the students to take appropriate risks and expand their comfort zones.

Course Selection: Course selection for the 2021-2022 school year will begin in November!
Since students are only in person two days per week, we are going to try a different set-up for course selection this year. Mrs. Docherty and Mrs. Norton will be sending out an instructional video and document explaining how students should select their classes electronically in Tyler. Students and parents/guardians are encouraged to work on course selection together and have it completed by Dec. 1.
Between Dec. 1 and March 26, counselors will meet either in person or via Zoom with students individually to review grades, graduation credits and 2021-22 courses to make sure everything is on track.
FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid): FAFSA IS REQUIRED FOR SENIORS GRADUATING IN 2021! If you have not yet submitted your FAFSA, please go to www.fafsa.ed.gov and fill it out now.
