About the fire ant
The fire ant is native to south america but was introduced to the u.s. between 1933 and 1945. The way they were transferred is believe to be a ships ballast.They spread through out the u.s. due to mild winters but mostly due to residential and industrial development. the fire ants mounds may damage harvesting equipment, live stock injury and can also damage crops. Humans and pets can also be hurt.
A way you can stop the spread of the fire ants or prevent any one from getting hurt is by doing a liquid treatment may be done by rodding the chemical deep into the mound or by drenching it. it needs to get deep enough so it can hit most of the ants. the ones that are hit will die in about 24 hours. it is best to do when its spring or fall when temperatures are between 70 and 85.
