CompSci Weekly
March 25, 2024 - March 29,2024
Dear CompSci Families,
We have had a busy and productive week here at school! Kids are working on projects all over the building! Grade 7 kids are working on Culture Day displays and are proud of their work! Kids in all grades are doing inventive thinking in the tech classes and in art they are working on Zentangle drawings. This time of year is when the students begin to put all of their learning together and make connections across subject areas. It's like a light bulb goes on at the end of the 3rd quarter, and this is what we are seeing! Our 6th graders are also listening to a presentation from an EHPD officer about online safety. 6A has already seen it and 6B will next week. The kids are really interested in the topic, so hopefully it will stay with them.
Last night was our Math and Science night, and it was a lot of fun! Thank you to all the staff who helped out and to all the families who came and did the activities. Our next big night is "We R CompSci" which is April 4th, and we hope you can make it!
Some additional notes:
- Last week during conferences we did a quick incentive for kids who came to school on each of the three half days. Our attendance rose from 67% to 78%! The kids who were here all three days got a bag of popcorn and a high five!
- Our cafeteria is now selling "snacks". If you would like your child to be able to buy them you must put money in their myschoolbucks account. The cafeteria does not accept cash.
That's it for now!
Enjoy the weekend,
Jill Wnuk

The Right to Read
When a child can’t read, their chances of incarceration, homelessness, and unemployment increase. That’s why Oakland-based NAACP activist Kareem Weaver believes literacy is one of the greatest civil rights issues of our time and is fighting for better reading instruction. You are invited to attend an exclusive screening of the documentary film “The Right to Read’, followed by a panel discussion.
Save the date: Thursday, April 4th. Free & open to the public. Refreshments will be served.

CREC’s Statement of Diversity and Inclusion
“Capitol Region Education Council (CREC) is an intentionally diverse social justice organization whose members work to acknowledge, respect, and empathize with people of all different identifiers, such as race, socioeconomic status, gender identity and expression, education, age, ability, ethnicity, culture, sexual orientation, language, nationality, and religion. In accordance with CREC’s mission of equity, excellence, and success for all through high-quality educational services, our staff and students commit to participate in and support ongoing equity and inclusion programming through curricular and co-curricular offerings, professional learning, and local and national partnerships. Moreover, CREC staff and students strive to understand and confront the symptoms and causes of systematic oppression—ranging from implicit biases to micro aggressions to discriminatory policies, practices and traditions—that benefit privileged groups. While at CREC, staff and students commit to affirm and honor the lived experiences of others, to willingly challenge inherited beliefs and ideologies, and consequently learn, grow, and serve.”
