Anderson Elementary Update
March 2024
From the Desk of the Principal. . .
- March Is Reading Month is off to a great start. We hosted Wade LaHue, a naturalist from Pokagon. He talked to the students about animals they might see when hiking or camping in Michigan. Check out the pictures below!!
- Students should be doing lots of reading for March Is Reading Month. Each grade level has set a goal so parents please encourage your child to do their reading!
- IRIPS have been sent home. Please be sure to sign and return them to your child's teacher.
- Please make sure you turn in your background check paperwork by April 1 if you plan to be a field trip chaperone.

Responsibility Room
Our Responsibility Room has been very successful with our first grade students. As a result, we have now expanded this opportunity to Kindergarten and Second Grade. This room will be open during recess. Students will be referred to the Responsibility Room by their teachers or recess supervisors. Once a student has been referred to the Responsibility Room he or she will get help in thinking about his or her choices and developing a plan to help them make better choices. We are using a lot of restorative practices. Here is a link to more information: Responsibility Room
Kindergarten Registration
If you have a child who will be 5 on or before September 1, 2024 it is time to start planning for next year. Kindergarten Registration is on March 19, 2024 from 4:00-6:00 p.m.. We are doing this event a little differently this year. We will have four sessions for parents. Sessions will start at 4:00, 4:30, 5:00 and 5:30. Once you have chosen your session, please come about ten minutes early so that you can complete paperwork. The sessions will run in the gym. We will have several stations set up and parents will get to travel from station to station. We are hopeful that this will allow us to avoid having long lines. You will need to bring in your driver's license, your child's birth certificate, your proof of residence and your child's immunization record if you have it. We will make copies of these items. We will have stations featuring Head Start, the Bronson Library, classroom tours, frequently asked questions and assessment sign up. Please contact the school office with questions.
Incoming Kindergarten Assessments
On May 10, we will be assessing our incoming kindergarten students. On this day our current Kindergarten students will not have schoo so that our incoming kindergarten students can meet with their future kindergarten teachers. l. Additionally, on May 10, assessment day, we will host the health department and Smiles On Wheels. They will be here to provide the state mandated vision, hearing and dental screenings to our incoming kindergarten students at no cost to our families. Students will complete their assessment with the kindergarten teacher and, if desired, parents can choose to also complete the state mandated screenings. Parents not interested in completing these screening are more than welcome to pay their family doctor and dentist to complete these screenings at another time.

Smiles On Wheels
Recently, we sent home paperwork regarding the Smiles on Wheels program. This program was able to provide almost $15,000 in free services. As explained in the paperwork we sent home, they do bill insurance. Please reach out if you have questions regarding this-we will give you the phone number to contact them directly.
New Visitor Management System
Our Visitor Management System is up and running. We are using the system to check in visitors as well as check in and check out students. Thank you for your patience as we continue to become familiar with this system.
