Hello YCIS Families-- Spring is officially up on us! Please read below for all the latest information happening at YCIS.
- Spring Break is next week. The office will be closed March 25th-March 29th. Enjoy your break!
- Shout out to our Oregon Battle of the Books teams. Team Fireflies in the 4th grade and the Sunflower Sisters in the 6th grade took their love of reading all the way into the regionals with a few select other schools. Way to go teams (see pics below).
- On April 10th we will be putting on an Anti-Bullying Assembly for our 6th, 7th and 8th graders. The assembly will include a discussion about the impact that bullying type of behavior has on our social and emotional well being. Our school resource officer, Chris Livingston, will speak about what constitutes cyber bullying and the consequences for sending or requesting inappropriate messages or images and we will be showing the video "Are You Okay?" which is linked below. A similar age appropriate assembly will be planned for our 4th and 5th graders.
- When we come back from Spring Break we will start the forecasting process for next year. 8th graders will begin forecasting for high school on April 4th in their language arts class. We will begin forecasting with our current 6th and 7th graders in the early part of April as well. 6th, 7th and 8th graders will be forecasting for M-J term in April. After reflection and feedback we are going to offer shorter class periods for M term and the length of classes will look more like a traditional 7 period day rather than the block schedule we used for Jan Term.
- State testing begins in April. Grade level teachers will be communicating when these tests are happening and what subjects will be assessed. We spread these tests out over the course of Spring to allow our students ample time in between. All grade levels are tested at YCIS in reading and math. Science is also tested for 5th and 8th grades.
- The spring theater production of "Suessical the Musical" is set to take the stage on April 25th, 26th and 27th. Showtimes are at 7:00 with an additional matinee performance on the 27th at 3:00.
- The YCIS Jog-A-Thon is happening on May 10th. Mark your calendars. This is our annual fundraisers with proceeds going right back to our students in the way of field trips, classroom supplies and other enrichment opportunities.
- YCBC will be conducting a series of basketball skills clinic every Saturday this spring. This is a free clinic open for all students in grades 3rd-8th. See flier below
Spring Break marks the homestretch of the school year. When we come back we will already be planning end of school year activities, but there is still a lot to cover between now and then. Enjoy the break.
Sincerely,
Matt Wiles
