Mercer Memo
Tiger Families:April 14-20
Vision Statement:
Mercer School students are empowered to succeed in personal pathways, expand their potential, find joy in learning and thrive in a diverse and global community.
Strategic Plan: Focus on Culture and Community
Mercer School knows it takes a village to raise a child and we are grateful for the partnerships we have in the Mercer Community that support our students. We are also proud of the way our students support and represent our community.
Mercer Girls Shine at Lambeau Field
Mercer girls were one of nine teams across the state of Wisconsin to participate in the second annual Girls Flag Open event at Lambeau Field and the Don Hutson Center. Girls participated in organized drills, competitive team relays, lunch at Lambeau and then ended the day with exhibition games. The Packers are working to bring attention to the sport of girls flag football in hopes it will be sanctioned by WIAA to provide Wisconsin high school girls the oportunity to compete in this sport. Many thanks to coaches Matt Schoeneman and D'kota Engler for supporting the girls and Robyn Schoeneman for organizing the event! And of course, a big thank you to the families and fans who came to cheer them on! Go Tigers!
Mercer School to Host Earth Day Activities in School Forest
Be sure to hold Monday, April 22 on your calendar for Earth Day in the Carol Hanneman Mercer School Forest. The public is welcome to attend. We will be hosting two sessions-one at 9:00 am and the second at 12:30 pm. Mercer students will serve as trail guides. In addition to our Woods and Water student trail guides, we will be joined by representatives from the Discovery Center and the Forestry Department. The day wraps up with Mercer high school students volunteering for road clean up as a conservation project.
Small School. Big Opportunity.
Strategic Plan: Focus on Teaching and Learning
Ensuring Mercer students are engaged in high-quality, personalized learning experiences is one of the strategic priorities identified by the School Board to support our vision and Portrait of a Mercer School Scholar. Read below for examples of how this is coming to life in Mercer School,
Earthquake Lab
6th grade students in Ms. Brown's classroom have been learning about natural hazards and disasters. They researched different ways that homes in Japan are built to withstand earthquakes. This research was followed by students simulating a build of earthquake proof homes using toothpicks, marshmallows, and the 3D Doodler pen. Fifth grade students were happy to simulate earthquakes by shaking the jello that served as the ground in the simulation.
Earth Day
The Friends of the Mercer Public Library are sponsoring a children’s Earth Day poster contest. Cash prizes will be awarded in three age categories: preschool through second grade, third through sixth grade, and seventh through twelfth grade. Click here for links to entry forms and more information.
So many great things are happening at Mercer School, you won't want to miss out!

Walk for Water: Saturday, April 20
Did you know that 2 billion people do not have access to safe drinking water? The Mercer United Methodist Church is sponsoring a “Walk for Water” to heighten awareness and raise money to get safe water to these vulnerable populations. We are doing this in conjunction with the Mercer Public Library’s observance of Earth Day, which will be from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm on Saturday, April 20. Those who attend the Earth Day event can stay and participate in the walk.
