HomeBRIDGE 2023-2024 Vol. 33
Week of April 29, 2024
Things to Note
- There is only FOUR WEEKS left in the school year!
- Thank you to all the students and parents who participated in AK STAR Testing this month.
- Next Parent Group meeting is Monday, May 13.
The Juneau Education Association (JEA) is excited to announce its annual Read Across Alaska events for 2024. The purpose of Read Across Alaska is to promote reading in Alaska and to honor Alaskan authors and illustrators.
JEA is working in collaboration with Juneau Public Libraries, Juneau Parks and Recreation, Sealaska Heritage Institute, and the Juneau School District to provide a 3-part series of StoryPaths in May. StoryPaths place a children’s story—a deconstructed book, page by page—along a walking route in the community.
Dear Parents,
Lily Hope, renowned weaver/artist/teacher, is hosting a FREE weavers gathering and demonstration on Tuesday, April 30 between 11am & 3 pm at Centennial Hall. There will also be a ticketed event that evening at 5:30 at Centennial Hall recounting the history and demonstrating Yeil Koowu's rich future.
The whole family is invited to watch 15 newly woven child size Yeil Koowu (Ravenstail robes) being danced by Juneau's Tlingit Culture Language Literacy (TCLL) class. This is the largest collection of child size Yeil Koowu since its resurgence in the 1980s. We can't tell you what the surprise is, but you should know that something really special is going to happen. Learn more at www.lilyhope.com/yeilkoowu
Gunalchéesh for spreading the word!
