Prayer for a New School Year
Lord, we thank You for this new school year and for all the opportunities we will have to learn and grow with one another.
We ask You to fill us with the wisdom and joy of Your Spirit.
May everything, we do begin with Your inspiration and be guided by the Holy Spirit.
We make this prayer to You through Christ our Lord. Amen
Our Patron Saint-St. Paul
Formed in the Faith 2022-2023
This year's school board pastoral theme "Formed in the Faith" calls us to nurture our relationship with God as we continue along our faith journey. God invites us to enter into relationship with Him, and growing in faith is our response to this relationship.
The “Formed in the Faith” logo is represented by a tree with roots below the ground, and a seed that is marked with the cross. The tree is a visible sign of God’s creation, which represents all of us. The roots remind us that as people of faith, we are all rooted in Christ. The seed reminds us that in order for our faith to grow, we must sow on good soil, which is the faith formation that we give and receive throughout our lives.
"As you therefore have received Christ Jesus the Lord, continue to live your lives in him, rooted and built up in him and established in the faith, just as you were taught, abounding in thanksgiving (Colossians 2:6-7)"
Formed in the Faith Prayer
Lord Jesus Christ, you are The Way, The Truth, and The Life. We are grateful for your loving presence. Help us to grow in relationship with you.
We long to learn more about you as we seek to live Christ-Centred lives.
We ask the Holy Spirit to guide us as we walk with one another on our journey of faith. Help us to sow seeds of faith that are rooted in your love. We ask this in your name.
Amen.

Health and Safety
Our students’ health and wellbeing are a priority at St. Paul Catholic School. In order to keep everyone safe and healthy, we will continue hygiene routines that are based on directions from Public Health:
- Hand sanitizing and washing will be a regular part of our daily routine. Students and staff will sanitize their hands every time they enter the classroom or enter the building.
- Students should have a refillable water bottle that they can fill at our bottle filling stations. Please ensure that your child’s water bottle is clearly labelled.
- Masks are optional for all staff, students, and visitors.
- At this time, similar to last year, to minimize contact risks, parents will be met at the front door when dropping off or picking up students.
- Please continue to complete the school screener before attending school each day.

SAFE ARRIVAL AND CHANGES TO END OF THE DAY ROUTINE
On September 19, we will move to the ALCDSB approved SafeArrival School Messenger app. The detailed process will be sent home in a letter and we are happy to walk you through the process if there are questions.

Parking and Crossing at St. Paul
First of all, we thank the City of Kingston, City Councillors, the Kingston Police, School Council and our parent community, Triboard Transportation Services, KFL& A Public Health and the ALCDSB for their support in making our school area safer for pedestrians.
The City of Kingston has recently introduced regulatory changes in the Strathcona Park neighbourhood aimed at improving road safety and supporting increased active travel to school. These changes represent one of five recommendations developed collaboratively by the City, school boards, school transportation services, Kingston Police, and KFL&A Public Health earlier this year and approved by City Council.
As a result, a new neighbourhood-wide “Area Speed Limit” of 40km/h and a school area speed limit of 30 km/h along the school frontages on McMahon Avenue are now signed and in effect. Additionally, new “Community Safety Zones” have been established and are marked by signage on several streets surrounding the school area where fines for many traffic offences, including speeding, are doubled to encourage safer driving.
To ensure that these important regulatory changes are well understood by the community, the City has provided information to all Strathcona Park residents by mail. Also, please find attached a digital information sheet explaining the types and location of all changes for your information. This includes a link to our Neighbourhood Road Safety webpage where interested families can find out more about ongoing and future phases of this work. We also encourage individuals to submit questions, concerns, and feedback through our Contact Us web form.
Parents will notice that there are new posts in front of the school, placed by the City of Kingston. Please do not park beside the posts as this will impede walking and driving. For parents who drop off or pick up their child(ren), please note the bus parking zone in front of the playground entrance and refrain from parking there. There are 15 minute designated drop off/pick up spaces closer to Jane Ave.
Thank you so much for your cooperation!
Food Allergies
Our school is a nut free school! We ask that all snacks and lunches are free from nuts and peanuts.
We also have students in Grade 1 who have allergies to sesame seeds, dairy and egg. We have students in Grade 2 who have sesame seed allergies. These allergies are life-threatening. Therefore, we ask that there are no foods in snack nor lunch items that contain these products in Grade 1 (no sesame seeds, dairy or egg) and in Grade 2 (no sesame seeds).
Anaphylaxis and Medications
It is important that the school is aware if your child has a severe medical condition. School staff may only administer medication to students with written authorization from the parent/guardian and the prescribing physician.
Please contact the school to discuss your child’s medical condition and to obtain the Medical Information and Consent forms. All medications must be clearly labelled and stored in the main office.
Catholic Graduate Expectations
St. Paul Catholic School Council
St. Paul Catholic School is blessed to have such an active school council. Our Catholic School Council plays an important role in our community as they work closely with staff to support the faith, social, and community building aspects of our children’s school life. All parents/guardians are invited to the meetings and are encouraged to become involved.
Our first Catholic School Council meeting will be on Wednesday, September 21 at 6:30 p.m (virtually). A link to the meeting will be sent via School Messenger as well as posted to our website.
Elections for executive positions on our Catholic School Council will be held at this meeting. Parents/Guardians who are interested in fulfilling one of the executive positions should complete and return the paperwork to the school.
