Charger Check-In
March 14, 2024
A Note from Ms. Owens
This afternoon, our 8th graders presented a somber, prayerful and reflective Living Stations. They have so much to be proud of! They have worked very hard to learn their various roles. Mr. Laskaridis and Mrs. Anderson have coached, encouraged and challenged the Class of 2024 to step forward as leaders to present a powerful Living Stations and they did just that this afternoon. Our 8th graders will present Living Stations again on Friday evening at 6:30PM.
Congratulations and thank you to Mrs. Brogan and the entire St. Patrick's - St. Baldrick's committee! And thank you to everyone who attended the celebration! Saturday's event was a huge success in so many ways! There were over 60 participants who had their heads shaved. The event raised well-over $52,000 for St. Baldrick's. The event had so many pre-sale tickets that we opened Kane Hall to make sure there was enough space for everyone. This event was yet another testament to strength and vibrancy of the St. Catherine community.
There are volunteer opportunities for both students and adults at the last St. Catherine Fish Fry of the season.
- Students - Set Up Chairs and Tables (more slots added for Friday)
- Adults and Students - Work at the Event and Clean Up/Breakdown (slots still available)
Volunteers are also needed at Saturday's Breakfast with the Easter Bunny. There are openings for both students and adults.
Over Easter Break, St. Catherine will have some asbestos abatement work done in the Fr. Lion Center. School will not be in session while this work is occurring. I am including the official notification letter for those who would like to read it.

5Essentials Survey
For the past several years, all schools in the Chicago Archdiocese have participated in the 5 Essentials Survey from the University of Chicago. Three core stakeholder groups are asked to respond to this survey: school families, classroom teachers and the student support team, and students in 4th-8th grade.
This feedback is a signicant source of information used in crafting our Continuous School Improvement Plan. In order to receive results of the survey, at least 20% of our school families need to participate. Currently, SCA is at an 8% response rate. I'm asking that each school family take the time to complete this survey. Thank you for your partnership.
Academic Eligibility Pause at Start of Trimester
Our third trimester began on Monday, March 4. In accordance with the policy listed in the Parent-Student Handbook, we will pause academic eligibility for the first three weeks of the trimester. The rationale for this is because, at the start of any marking period, a student who misses a single assignment or who earns a low grade on a single assignment can end up with a failing grade.
- We will resume reviewing grades for academic eligibility on Thursday, March 28 (which is Holy Thursday).
- Any students in 4th-8th grades , along with their parents, earning an F will be notified of their probationary status.
- If that failing grade is still in place on Thursday, April 11, the student will be ineligible to participate in any and all extra-curricular activities until the following Thursday.
