Dear St. Luke Families,
In our ongoing pursuit to refine how Elk Island Catholic Schools provides faith-integrated education and support to all of our students, we’ve launched our Assurance Survey for the 2023-2024 school year.
This is an opportunity for you to let us know your thoughts on how well we’re addressing our mission to develop educational opportunities in the context of Gospel values, celebrate and nurture students, and guide them on a lifelong spiritual journey. Your feedback will be anonymous and welcomed to assist with guiding the decision-making process as EICS plans for the future.
To help us gain a comprehensive understanding of how we’re doing, similar Assurance surveys are also being provided to all students and EICS staff. Please take the time to complete this survey when it is convenient for you. If you are the parent or guardian of multiple children who are attending EICS schools, we ask that you take the time to reflect on each child’s individual experience and fill out a survey for each child. We recognize that their experiences may be different and wish to obtain a greater understanding of these differences in the survey.
To begin the survey, please check your emails. To ensure your feedback is received, all surveys must be completed by Monday, February 19.
Thank-you for sharing your voice with EICS and for supporting your child's education!
Have a wonderful weekend,
Cathy Hinger

Out Grown it?
The office is always seeking 1 or 2 extra pairs of pants, tee-shirts and socks in a variety of sizes to send home with a student who may have had a spill or accident on the playground or in the art room and requires an emergency change of clothing.
If you have an item that your child has outgrown and would like to donate it to our infirmary, we would appreciate that gesture.
(Unfortunetly, we do not have the space or capacity to accept large amounts of clothing but would certainly appreciate 1 or 2 of each item total per size)
Trinkets and Prizes - Birthdays
We are seeking ways to reduce environmental impacts on the environment.
As such we would like to invite your children to donate any small items they no longer play with (fidgets, book-marks, small figurines, etc.) to our school Birthday Prize bin so that another child may enjoy that item opposed to it going to the land fill.
Thank you for helping us keep environmental stewardship and the spirit of giving, alive and well at St. Luke.

Learners and Learning
Happy GroundHog Day
Our Grade 1 Students spent some time in the library reading about GroundHog day
Mikisiwipisim - February Moon (Eagle Moon) - in Cree Moon Calendar
February is often a time for love. We celebrate Valentines day, The trees hug one another, birds flock together, squirrels chasing one another. During this time, listen for the birds' songs, The chickadees especially.
Watch the video below which discusses learning with the land as seasons change.
Reading Buddies
Our St. Luke students truly flourish together with the reading buddy / mentorship program. This fosters reading and literacy in our littles while simultaneously engages leadership strengths and teaches empathy to our bigs.

Library News
Our READ- A- THON at St Luke is back again! Students were given their sheets this past week.
The read a thon is a wonderful fundraiser for our library, and helps us get new books, furniture, and resources. This year we would like to get an additional seating area for our students to enjoy while they are reading in the library.
It will run from Feb. 5th - Feb. 19th. Only minutes read between those dates will count. Everytime your child reads, they track their minutes, and record them on the reading log provided. Students will be asking for sponsors and donations ( either per minute read or a lump sum) We are asking that all minutes read and recorded, be signed by a parent, guardian or teacher. Honesty is very important! And there's more!!! The PRIZES!!
*Top minutes read K-4 $ 50 Indigo gift card & prize basket
*Top minutes read 5-8 $ 50 Indigo gift card & prize basket
*Most money raised $50 Indigo gift card & prize basket
*Class with the most minutes read PIZZA PARTY
*All students who raise a minimum of $25 will be entered into a draw for a prize!
Thank you for your continuous support, please remember that this is not mandatory, but a fun way to get our kids reading and help our library grow!!
If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to email me!
Have a great weekend!
