MOOD METERS ~ An Emotional Check-In
Caring for Yourself So You can Care for Others, by Anne Brunette, Family Therapist
Avoiding burn-out is one reason self-care is important. You cannot care for others if you do not take care of yourself. Another reason self-care is important is to enable you to be an effective teacher. If you are tired, either emotionally or physically, you cannot do your job well. With the Holiday break just around the corner this is a perfect time to get plenty of rest and reset the mind. Most importantly, self-care is important so you can model good balance and healthy boundaries to your students and co-workers.

Unit 2: Empathy and Critical Thinking
Kinder – 2: Zee and his friends help children learn about their emotions and how they can change. Understanding emotions of self help us to understand emotions of others, which helps to gain empathy. Children learn the importance of taking ownership of their own learning and growth.
3 – 6: Children develop empathy, focus on positive changes in themselves and others, and reduce stereotyping. Children learn the connection between thoughts, feelings, and actions and develop tools to change their own thoughts, so they can interact with one another in more positive ways.
