Registering for the 24-25 School Year
Last week, Mrs. Story and Mrs. Koehne met with all of students in grades 8-11 about registering for classes for the 24-25 school year. They all have access to a course description guide, the registration sheets, and the presentation we gave. They were all encouraged to talk with the adults in their life about the choices they were looking at, so if you have questions, please ask them about it. They can share those resources with you!
We plan to actually register for next year in early April. Students were asked to bring their sheets back to school early in the week, so they are here when we complete the process. Once students have registered, we will work to create the schedule for next year based on those requests. We are excited to have new offerings for next year, such as Ag Career Seminar, Computer Science:Coding, Spanish III, and a Health Science Field Experience. We also hope to be able to once again offer college English courses for our seniors. We are working with MN West on this option.
AHS/MDE Graduation Requirements
According to school policy, students in grades 9-12 must complete a minimum of 22 units of credit in the classroom and pass all required state mandated tests to receive a diploma. To receive a diploma, the State of Minnesota requires students to earn passing credits in the following areas:
4 credits in language arts 3 credits in math
3.5 credits in social studies 3 credits in science
1 credit in fine arts
1/2 a credit in physical education
1/2 of a credit in health
Our legislature is looking at adding additional requirements for student in the coming years. All students will be required to take a Personal Finance Course in grades 10-12 (we previously had this as a 9th grade course.) They are also considering the requirement of computer science courses to prepare students for the future. Students were informed that it is very likely that students graduating 2026 and beyond will likely be required to have 24 credits. With a seven period day, this is very attainable for every student.
Middle School Field Trips
We are looking forward to taking our middle school students on their field trips in late May. With that, we want to remind students and parents that these events are considered a privilege and student behavior is factored into that. As in years past, students with a major office referral or more than 3 minor offences will NOT be allowed to attend the field trip.

Fire Time
Our FIRE TIME topics of the month for March will shift to Enthusiasm. We hosted a basketball tournament in both the middle and high schools. The Revenge Tour took the championship at the high school. The middle school had a few more teams and that competition will continue another week. We are excited to welcome guest speaker, Dan LaRock, for our high school students to give a message of the importance of having enthusiasm for the moments in your life.
