Grade Level Information
Freshmen
Please encourage your 9th grade student to schedule a conference with their counselor if they have not already done so.
Sophomores
Sophomores should continue to find clubs and activities to get involved in at West, looking for activities for over the summer: like jobs and volunteer opportunities.
Juniors
If your 11th grade student has not had a junior conference yet, please encourage them to schedule this meeting with their counselor as soon as possible. Additionally, the counselors will be meeting with juniors through their history classes in April. During this time juniors will continue researching and developing their post high school plan in small groups with their Counselor. Information will include how to write your college essay, narrowing down college choices, resume and job application tips.
Seniors
Please encourage your 12th grade student to continue checking their school email for scholarship and other important announcements.
Dropping a Course - Reminder!
A student carrying more than the required number of classes may drop a class without penalty anytime within the first seven weeks (Deadline is March 13th for Second Semester. If a class is dropped beyond the seventh week of a semester, the student’s record will reflect an “F” (failure) for the current quarter and current semester. (See Student Handbook).
Scholarship Scoops
Every year the Counseling Office receives information on many scholarship opportunities for seniors. We publicize these opportunities in our “Scholarship Scoops” throughout the year. Students are encouraged to check the document frequently for the most recent scholarship opportunities. Applications and/or information about applying for the scholarships included in the “Scoops” are available in the Counseling Office. It is a student’s responsibility to complete the applications and observe deadlines.
Summer Programs
The Counseling Office receives information on many summer programs, ( i.e, pre-college programs offered by colleges and universities, art camps, wilderness experiences, language camps, etc.) Please check out our Summer Programs list here. You are welcome to check out the file in the Counseling Office for more information and/or registration materials.
