March 14th Board Agenda items
The board took the following actions or heard the following reports:
Items on the consent agenda were approved.
Dr. Jim Wussow, assistant superintendent for academic services, presented a summary of the work of the Secondary Academy Committee. The board adopted an amended recommendation for the Secondary Future Industries Academy relating to focus areas, competencies and partnerships. Amendment to the recommendation included adding the board approved guiding principles, as well as continued study and assessment of the viability of an academy.
Susan Modisette, assistant superintendent for campus services, presented information regarding the progress in current full-day pre-K classrooms.
A recommendation to add 16 classrooms of full-day pre-K was shared.
Feedback was sought from the board on expansion plans in order to begin student recruitment for new sites. Initial support was obtained for utilizing current building capacity for pre-K expansion, with further discussion planned for a future meeting.
Updates on the status of proposed legislation potentially affecting the district and various bills of interest were provided.
Superintendent of Schools Dr. Brian Binggeli gave a process update on the feasibility of a collaborative facility and program for select special education students. Plano ISD, Wylie ISD, McKinney ISD, Frisco ISD, Allen ISD and Children’s Health are studying the potential for a public/private effort to provide collaborative programming for high-need, emotionally disturbed and/or autistic students.
The board approved policy FDB(LOCAL) Admissions: Transfers and Classroom Assignments under first reading as presented by Karla Oliver, assistant superintendent of government, community and planning initiatives. This policy will be presented under second reading at a subsequent meeting.
