Diaspora Opens at 6 p.m. TONIGHT!
March 1, 2024
From the Desk of Superintendent, Dr. Kevin S. Miller
Dear Licking Heights Families,
It is a great time to be a Hornet! Our district is alive and full of change, but one thing stays the same–the talent and outstanding ability of our students. March is full of plenty of opportunities to support both our artistic and athletic Hornets, starting with Diaspora tonight.
Enjoy our student-led Diaspora show tonight at 6 p.m. or tomorrow at 2:30 p.m. in the high school auditorium. Performances include original dances, songs, poetry readings, videos, and fashion shows from members of the high school Cultural Identity Club. Tickets must be bought online through presale (link below). Come celebrate the rich diversity of Licking Heights with these student-leaders!
March also brings two favorite district events–the high school spring musical and the K-12 district art show. This year’s musical is The Wedding Singer and performances will be at 7 p.m. in the high school auditorium on March 14-16. Tickets are available by clicking the button below. The art show will be from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. on March 18 and 19 in the Central Intermediate gym. All families, students, and community members are welcome to attend this FREE celebration of student creativity.
Spring sports are also starting up, providing our Hornets with opportunities to shine on the track, volleyball court, and baseball and softball field. Remember that we publish a list of our athletic events on the District Website at the start of each month and add all athletic events to our district calendar on the website. The official district athletic website is also an information hub for all middle and high school sports.
As a reminder, our office will hold four different coffee meetings the first full week of March for community members to speak with me and members of our leadership team about our recently announced redistricting or anything else on your mind. All are welcome to join.
Coffee meetings will take place on the following dates:
- Mon., March 4 from 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. @ West Elementary
- Tues., March 5 from 4 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. @ District Office
- Thurs., March 7 from 8 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. @ District Office
- Thurs., March 7 from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m. @ District Office
If you are not able to attend our coffee meetings, I am always available and willing to speak with members of our Hornet family. You can contact me by calling the District Office at (740) 927-6926 or emailing me at kevin.miller@lhschools.org.
Thank you for your continued support of our students and district.
Sincerely,
Dr. Kevin S. Miller, Superintendent

5th Through 12th Grade Students: In Need of Feminine Hygiene Products During the Day?
The district has received grant funds to purchase special dispensers for feminine hygiene products. They will be placed in each clinic and a few universal spaces (main office hallways, counseling offices hallways, cafeteria restrooms, etc.) around Central Intermediate, the middle school, and the high school building to ensure that young ladies have access to products when needed. Please only take what you need when you need it as many students are in need of these essential resources.

South Elementary: Smiles, Science, and Plenty of Slime
Mrs. Neufang's first-grade class at South Elementary learned about solids, liquids, and gasses over the last few weeks. They wrapped up the unit by making slime. Students enjoyed watching the liquid glue turn more solid once the activator was added.
West Elementary: Mathematicians in the Making
Ms. Garner’s second-grade students at West have started a new unit in math focusing on measurement. Using non-standard units like paper clips and pop cubes, they are mastering the art of measuring.
North Elementary: Congratulations to Mrs. Weaver!
Mrs. Weaver, a Title 1 teacher at North, won the prestigious Licking County Foundation Leaders for Learning award! This award honors the best and brightest of Licking County's teachers. Members of the Foundation team surprised Mrs. Weaver in her classroom to give her a cash prize and a custom-made crystal apple. Congratulations, Mrs. Weaver, and thank you for all you do!
Central Intermediate: Celebrating Our Staff
Principal Phillips organized a fun and creative monthly staff meeting with Candy, Conversations & Clay. This included small group education topics for conversations, clay mugs & glazes for fun, and a Valentine-themed themed candy bar.
Middle School: Mr. Perry, Band Master
Director of Middle School Bands Doug Perry had the opportunity to present on a round table discussion about MS bands and the OMEA Large Group participation. We love it when our staff have the opportunity to shine and show all the wonderful things we are doing here at LH.
