Wildcat Chat
Wildwood Elementary
May 29, 2020
Dear Wildwood Families,
It is hard to believe that we are approaching the end of our school year. We are so proud of our Wildcats — participation on our remote learning platforms continues to grow from week to week. Please let your scholar(s) know that we are excited to see them learning through Class Zoom sessions, i-Ready lessons, Canvas assignments, myON activity, and through the numerous emails, pictures, and Remind texts our staff receives.
As we approach the last couple weeks of remote learning, I want to encourage all scholars to remain focused and to learn as much as possible in the remaining two weeks. Those scholars who participate now will return to us with many of the needed skills for their next grade level. I encourage daily reading—not just now, but also throughout the summer. You may have heard about a “summer slide” with reading skills after summer break, and we want scholars to continue to gain and maintain their hard-earned reading skills.
I’d like to express much gratitude to all families for their amazing support with at-home, remote learning. Because we’ve worked together, we are seeing great results for our kids. We wish you a strong finish, and we are right alongside you. If you have any questions or need support, please reach out to us.
If I can help in anyway or if you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me.
In partnership,
Sarah Jackson

Message From the Counselor!
Hello Wildwood Wildcats!
Hello Wildcats can you believe that next school year you will be moving up to a new grade? This can be exciting and scary all at the same time. One way to manage our feelings is to first notice how you feel happy, worried or excited. Next, use your problem solving skills and think of things you could do that might help calm you down such as talking it out with an adult, doing belly breathing, listening to music you enjoy or using your Positive Self-Talk to say something kind to your self like "you got this or I can do it". Lastly, make the best choice that will lead to you feeling calm and in control of your emotions. Another, great way to stay in control of your feelings is to Wait and Cool off Keep up the practice of using your Kelso’s Choices.
What does PAWS look like at home this week? We are all learning how to be in school, at home. How are you doing with your Zoom meetings and checking your teacher’s Website?
Which brings me to PAWS
Our second Letter in our PAWS is “W”
W is the letter of today which stands For:
Work Together: While at home it's important to follow house rules and work with family members to keep your home a great space for everyone. Remember to respect everyone in your home by doing house chores, picking up toys when you are finished playing, sharing games and rooms in your home. Joining in with family time and asking others if they need your help are all ways of working together. You are apart of a community and that consist of both home and school just to name a few.
Empathy: When we think about others' feeling or try to understand what some else is feeling we are showing empathy towards them. How do we know if we are showing others empathy? One way is to look at their face and body for clues or think of a kind thing to say. Be sure to think about what their point of veiw might be as they might have different feelings about things than you.
A Family Activity - Charades: This is a guessing game. Each family member acts out a word or phrase for example a movie, food, book or object. While others guess the word or phrase. Make it fun do whatever works for your family be creative and use your imagination!
Exercise Daily: Stay committed to doing some form of daily exercise that you enjoy! Dancing, riding a bike, walking are all good ways to stay active and healthy as we practice social distancing.
Kelso Choices: Remember when you are home with your family and conflict may arise. It is not only about how you feel. It is also about how they feel, put yourself in the other person’s shoes. Use your Kelso Choices to talk it out with a family member or find a learning space make a deal, share and take turns when small problems show up.
Toolbox: Your toolbox are the supports you have available to you to help you solve problems and work through conflicts.
Question: What is in your toolbox today?
Answer: Today we talked about Empathy:
For example Instead of assuming how others feel Look at their faces and body for clues, Think about how do they feel?, How can I help or what is their point of view?
Positive Self- talk: "My positive thoughts create positive feelings. Today is going to be an awesome day"
My final message to you: We are proud of you and We are here for you
Stay Happy, calm and healthy,
Ms.Davis
