Principal's Message
Thank you for your continual support of our students in their learning. We have less than a month of the school year remaining, but every moment continues to count! Please encourage your child to arrive to school (or to online learning) on time and work their hardest. At home, enjoy books, time outside, or time cooking together to further practice their skills.
Sincerely,
Jennifer Short, Principal
A Note From Our Counselor, Mrs. Hunt
Dear Sterling Elementary Family,
It has been my honor to serve our community for the past eight years. I am retiring at the end of this school year, and I didn’t want to leave without thanking you for sharing your children and your hearts with me. I am moving on to a full-time job as “Grammy.” I will be thinking of you all as you navigate (successfully) back to the school building. Our families are strong and have weathered much. Together you will accomplish great things!
-Mrs. Hunt

The LCPS Gifted Education Office is moving the 2020-2021 gifted eligibility process to the fall of 2021. This decision was made to ensure that the process is safe and equitable for all LCPS families. Curricular enrichment opportunities designed to develop talent will be offered for students during the first marking period. Screening and identification will begin in November.
Virtual information sessions will be held in the fall to share information with LCPS families. At that time, families can follow up with their child’s gifted resource teacher with questions.
Technology Turn-in Processes
PreK – 11th Graders: Except for graduating seniors, all students with an assigned computer planning to return to LCPS next year will maintain possession of their assigned computer over the summer break. These computers may be used for summer learning programs or securely stored in preparation for the next school year. The Department of Digital Innovation created this handout to answer questions about how to care for your computer over the summer.
Students withdrawing from LCPS: Students withdrawing from the district should return their assigned computer to their school. You will receive a hand receipt confirming the return of your assigned computer and charger. LCPS will generate an invoice for the replacement cost of any unreturned equipment. We also ask that you remove stickers to the computer before returning it.

Interim Superintendent's Message about 2021-2022 School Year
Beginning on the first day of school, LCPS will provide instruction five days a week, in person, for all students for the 2021-2022 school year. Our plan is to return students and staff to in-person instruction that will provide a robust experience in a safe learning environment.
We look forward to seeing all students return to school just as in pre-pandemic years. For those few families which, primarily due to health reasons, may need to enroll their student in distance learning, an application process will open later this month. Distance learning in the fall will be different from this year’s learning model. Families can learn more by visiting the distance learning page, and contacting their elementary school principal or their middle or high school’s counseling director.
Our classroom teachers will be teaching their in-person students. The small number of students who enroll in full-time distance learning will have dedicated teachers for their classes. Please visit the website to read more Frequently Asked Questions about returning to school in Fall 2021. Watch the video.
We look forward to seeing all of you in the Fall.
Scott A. Ziegler, Ed.D.
Interim Superintendent
