Room 1219 Newsletter
Our second trimester is coming to an end. The second trimester report cards will be sent home March 7. We will have a minimum day March 1 to allow me to prepare the report cards. We have covered so much. Please ask your child about their podcast project, the Public Service announcement, available to listen online through a link below and on the homework page. Also, ask your child to show you his or her current science project online using edcanvas. Lastly, ask your child to practice their speeches that we will begin to hear February 25.
Not long after the report cards, we will all be enjoying a week Spring Break from March 18-22. Although it will be nice to enjoy some time off, please remind your child to read daily during this break. Reading is an important daily homework activity. Please help your child to find books to read. You can order from the book orders. I will be sending book orders Thursday, February 21. If you would like to order, please do so online or send the paper form and money by Thursday, February 28. You can also find quality books at the Glendale Public Library.
Please see below for more information on curriculum and important events.

Curricular Update
Language Arts: We are starting our poetry unit. This unit will likely continue into the next trimester. After studying the key elements of poetry, we will read a variety of poems to practice interpreting and find the elements in the poems. Now students are working on practicing their personal experience essays to present as a speech to the class February 25-March 1. We will not have another vocabulary test until March. We will soon begin another persuasive essay that will culminate in an activity March 14th. Be sure to ask your child what we did that day.
Mathematics: Our next unit is a continuation of fractions, with division of fractions the first section. We will also learn about multiplying positive and negative numbers. Then we will continue our study of algebra. Please encourage your child to write every step of their work as this helps them transition to the study of algebra.
Science: Our next unit is Plate Tectonics. We are in the middle of the unit and will likely finish in March.
Social Studies: Sixth Grade history is all about ancient civilizations. Ask your child about their history class with Mrs. Barnes and their Egypt project
