The POAG Committee members met three times to determine the top six characteristics that Duncanville graduates need to succeed after high school. They also provided feedback on how the district can help develop these characteristics at each grade level, K-12.
The images below show how the POAG Committee turned survey results into a final product. Thank you to each of the amazing committee members!
When we asked POAG Committee members "How would you describe your experience as a POAG Committee member?" here's what they said ...
CTE Pathways Bright Spots
📸 Three students enrolled in Audio/Video Production II were recently recognized by the Texas Association of Journalism Educators for their skills in Photography and Journalistic writing. Congrats, and we're looking forward to more great captures and stories from these students!
🏅 Texas Association of Future Educators (TAFE) students can't be stopped! A total of 23 members participated in TAFE State competitions, with 20 ribbon winners and 7 members advancing to the National Competition in June. Congratulations to the students and staff for producing the greatest number of advancements for TAFE in Duncanville ISD, ever!
✍️ Practicum of Business seniors are participating in a Notary Public training. On March 23, the first of these students achieved Notary status! This pilot group will hopefully spread the word and encourage other students to attain this marketable skill.
📐 Practicum of Architecture students are in the final stretch of their 6-week, virtual internship with Callison RTKL. This mentoring partnership started last school year, carried through the summer, and is moving forward in 2021. Some great designs are being rendered and discussed.
💇♂️ Ten Cosmetology students recently accrued 900+ hours that are requisite for the theory portion of their licensing exam. We are excited that students will test on campus under a proctoring arrangement through PSI for the first time, as COVID adjustments continue to be made.
🚗 Collision Repair and Refinishing students are hard at work, literally "at work". Two students are employed under a partnership with Extreme Powder Coating. A recent hire will be working with Shorty's Custom Paint and will be featured in the television segments that Shorty hosts.
🚜 Future Farmers of America (FFA) students competed in Regional Etymology and Veterinary Medical Applications contests. On April 13, students competed at Texas A&M University-Commerce and on the 14th they traveled to Tarleton State University. Students had the opportunity to tour both higher education facilities.
👨🏭 Welders began certification testing and we expect most students that have been receiving face-to-face instruction to receive the American Welding Society D1.1 certification!
💐 Mrs. Gant and her Floral Design students conducted a live Zoom workshop for elementary and intermediate students. Participants created flower pens just in time for spring. Floral Design students also created floral arrangements to honor the administrative staff that work with all CTE classes during Principal's Week.

The National Technical Honor Society is an elite student organization that involves academic excellence, leadership and community service. We recently held a virtual induction ceremony for 15 students and we have 21 graduating seniors that will be honored to wear the purple NTHS cord and monogrammed stole at graduation.
The CTE/CCMR department has a new web page that lists local and virtual summer enrichment programs. Parents can go to duncanvilleisd.org/cte and click on the Summer Enrichment Opportunities link.
