From The Desk Of Mrs. Doyle
Dear Families,
We made it through Week 1!!! The very best part of the week was seeing your children’s joyous faces around school. Their infectious (can I still say that?) enthusiasm radiated throughout the school and all of us on staff were so thrilled to see them.
We worked hard this week getting into new routines, which does take time. Students are adjusting to a new classroom set-up, new lunch routines, new schedules, etc. Thankfully, we were blessed with gorgeous weather, which made snack and mask breaks outside much easier. Our tents are up, as you can see if you are doing Car Drop Off or Car Pick Up. Speaking of that….
Car Drop Off
We have started to let students out of the cars a few minutes early whenever possible at arrival. Students are waiting on the grass under or near the tents until they can enter the school. Staff are not on duty until 7:45 a.m., so they must wait until then to enter the building. Please do not arrive earlier than 7:40 a.m. and please know that an early start is only possible when Mrs. Moffat and/or I are available to receive the students outside. We started doing this because we were backing up traffic in the town center and we’re trying to make sure we don’t cause a problem and that students are able to be in their classrooms on time. As a reminder, school begins at 7:55 a.m.
Car Pick Up
Thank you for your patience with Car Pick Up as well. As you know if you’ve done it this week, we are setting up 2 lines of cars in the bus parking area to enter the Pick Up area on the basketball court. Both lines need to be far to the right so that the departing cars have an exit lane. Also, we cannot begin staging for this until the buses have departed for their routes, which is approximately 2:10-2:12 p.m. It is extremely helpful if you do not arrive prior to 2:10 p.m. Please follow the direction of the staff on duty. Please pull up as close to the car in front of you as possible. Both lines are awesome. Embrace whichever line you get. Also, please do not use your phone while going through the Car Pick Up process.
Pool Testing and Contact Tracing
We have many staff and students who participate in pool testing and we have had very few positive results. That being said, we learned swiftly that when we do have a person who tests positive for COVID, whether through pool testing or otherwise, we have a lot of work to do for contact tracing now that we are fully in-person. Here’s what we do: we look for anyone who has been within 6’ of the COVID positive person for more than 15 minutes during the 48 hours prior to testing positive or symptom onset. Since students are seated 3 feet apart in the classrooms now, more students will be close contacts. We consider all aspects of the school day including watching the bus videos and consulting with the appropriate teachers and staff who work with the student. We follow the same process for any staff member who tests positive. If your child is identified as a close contact and/or is in the pool that tests positive, Mrs. Bradford will administer a Binax test, which is an individual COVID test that gives results in 15 minutes, if we have parent permission to do so. Regardless of the results of this test, close contacts must quarantine. The value of doing the Binax test is to know if the person is testing positive, so the family is aware and so we can begin contact tracing more swiftly for that case as well. Mrs. Bradford reviews all the rules of isolation and quarantine with each affected family. If you have questions about any of this, please reach out to Carol Bradford and she would be happy to answer your inquiries.
Click here to give permission for your child(ren) to participate in pool testing.
Lastly, it’s been a wonderful week, but it’s also been a looooooong week. Students are likely tired and may be a little cranky, but it will get better as we reacclimate to school routines. I hope you have a wonderful weekend enjoying the sunshine and your amazing kids.
Warmly,
Annette Doyle
THANK YOU THANK YOU!!
April Break Pooled Testing
Wednesday, April 21, 2021
8:30-11:30 AM
Curtis Middle School, 22 Pratts Mill Road, Sudbury
Sudbury Public Schools and the Sudbury Board of Health invite SPS students and staff to participate in pooled testing. Drive through testing will be supervised by trained observers. Students in grades 2-8 will self administer the test. Parents or caregivers will administer the test to students in PK-grade 1. Administration is easy and quick, as demonstrated by this video.
If you are interested in participating in the April break pooled testing, please complete this linked authorization form. The form will prompt you to print your response and bring it with you on the day of testing. The information collected will be used for contact tracing should a positive pool be identified. Please note, that a separate form is required for each testing participant, regardless of whether prior permission has been granted at the school level.
More information about SPS COVID-19 protocols and reopening is available on the district website.
