North Charleston Creative Arts Elementary
This Month in GT / Stretch:
3rd Grade: Students created Rube Goldberg machines- making some simple activity overly complicated and often defying the laws of physics. Third graders also completed March Mammal Madness brackets. It answers the age old question: who would win between animal species should they encounter each other in the wild? Students researched the combatants and made their picks. Animal victors are chosen each week by scientists, zoologists, and educators at Arizona State University.
4th Grade: We continued our Revolutionary War simulation. Students created alter egos as they face challenges as either a Patriot, Loyalist, or Undecided Citizen. This simulation is like a live action choose-your-own-adventure. Will students stay loyal to their side? Defect? Be victorious?
5th Grade: We studied optical illusions and looked at the art of MC Escher. Students created their own Escher-like tesselations that could be repeated across a paper. Fifth graders will also be working on March Madness brackets- but of the basketball sort. Students will look at statisictical probabilities, team mascots, and yes, even uniform colors, to try to fill out the perfect bracket. It's never been done before, but here's hoping!
