The Fairview Connection

MESSAGE FROM PRINCIPAL OPHUS
Dear Fairview Families,
Starting on Monday, students in grades 3-5 will be taking the Illinois Assessment of Readiness (IAR). The IAR is the state assessment and accountability measure for Illinois students enrolled in a public school district. IAR assesses the Illinois Learning Standards incorporating the Common Core and will be administered in English Language Arts and Mathematics. Fifth grade students will also be administered the Illinois Science Assessment (ISA). District 57 uses the IAR and ISA results to evaluate the effectiveness of overall programming. IAR and ISA results are not used for student placement into support services, enrichment services, or Lincoln Middle School reading/math classes. Our approach to this assessment with our students is to encourage them to try their best to show us what they know, but we do not want this to become a source of stress for them. The schedule for the IAR and ISA assessments can be found below.
Spring is always a busy time for the Fairview staff as we are continuing to work with our current students to help them learn and grow and start looking forward to planning for next school year as well. As we draw closer to the end of the school year, teachers will be creating class lists for next school year and then I will be making final teacher assignments. If you would like to provide input into the process, please fill out this form. Please do not feel obligated to fill out this form, but if you are interested, it is due no later than Tuesday, May 11th. While no guarantees can be made related to your feedback, I will read it over and consider it when making final class placement decisions. Depending upon what next school year will look like related to the option for remote learning, it may be particularly difficult to accommodate some feedback you may provide, so I appreciate your understanding. DO NOT REQUEST SPECIFIC TEACHERS ON THIS FORM. Such requests will not be honored.
Next week is Staff Appreciation Week! We are so grateful for the kindness of our PTO as they have already shared with us about their plans to show appreciation for the staff that works each day with their children. More information about their plans are included in the newsletter below. In addition, if you have a moment, take some time to send a word of encouragement to the teachers and staff that work with your child each day. The work of each educator at Fairview is so important in the development of our students, and I am thankful to be working with such a talented and caring group of professionals.
I hope you’ve all had a nice final week of April. We are heading into the final month of what has been quite a memorable school year! Thank you for your continued support as we work together in support of our students.
Sincerely,
Dan Ophus
Fairview Principal

DONATE TO DISTRICT 57 FAMILIES IN NEED
COVID-19 has presented many unique hardships and challenges for some of our family members, friends and neighbors. Some parents have asked if it’s possible to make a financial donation to help support District 57 families who are currently in need. The District has set up a system to facilitate this for anyone who is interested. We will distribute the collected funds to families, based on formal requests that are made. If you would like to donate, simply go to this link and follow these steps:
- Click on “Make a one-time payment.”
- Fill in your student’s name, school and grade.
- Click “COVID-19 Donation to District 57 Families.”
- Fill in your information and donation amount, then proceed to the payment section.
Thank you so much, in advance, for your kindness and generosity.
Those who are in need of support can fill out this online form. Names will only be seen by select district personnel who are distributing the funds.
Thank you,
Adam Parisi, Ed.S.
