Principal's Message
Talofa, Kia ora, Malo e lelei, Habari, Hello,
This Friday we will celebrate Mass as a school at 9:30am. We are fortunate that we can recommence with school Masses.
This Sunday is Palm Sunday! We would like to invite our students to come to Mass at 9:30 am ready for a palm procession to the Church. Students to wear their uniform and meet Annie outside the Church at 9:15 am.b Then we will attend Mass together.
We are fortunate to have secured Matua James to help run our weekly singing and build our Kapa Haka group. James will work alongside Annie our TA, to develop and strengthen our singing group and Kapa Haka.
There are some important notices coming home over the next couple of weeks. These must be returned asap. One is to update information regarding your details -phone numbers and the people who may collect your child. The other is information needed for our Education Review Team. Please do fill these in and send back to school so we have these in time. Many thanks in advance.
Our students participated well in last weeks swimming sports. Thanks to the families who were able to come and join us for this. It was a great morning.
So we give plenty of notice, we have two teacher only days planned for term 2. Due to covid and provider availability, these both have now fallen in the same month. We apologise for any inconvenience. May 12th is all about the new RE curriculum and May 27th is around learner agency.
Holy Week is fast approaching and teachers have many great learning experiences and focus activities planned for the last week. There is some information around what Holy Week is under the Catholic Character section.
It is wonderful to see students helping each other around the school and taking the time to make sure their peers are involved and invited. This is a great faith in action noticing, and I am very impressed as to how well students at Bishop Edward Gaines maintain their dedication in this area.
We will be having our ERO visit Term 2 , Week 1. The Education Review Office/Te Tari Arotake Matauranga is the New Zealand governments external evaluation agency. They evaluate and report on the education and care of learners in schools, kura, kohanga reo, puna reo and early childhood services.
Last week we began our meditation prayer focus. Again the students made me very proud in the way they embraced this form of prayer. Well done kids!

Headphones
All students require headphones when working on devices. Students, when working on their Maths Whizz, Educa or Education Perfect need to be able to hear the questions and prompts from their device. But also to be able to block out other noises in the classroom. Headphones can be purchased from The Warehouse for $10, we would appreciate it if you could provide these for your child. If this is something you need help with please let the office know -office@beg.school.nz. Thank you.
Swim Sports Day Results. Well done to our winners and all who participated.

Holy Week
This is Holy Week.
It starts on Sunday with Palm Sunday.
Provocations in Pacelli
Roncalli pest trapping and our first footprints!
Catholic Character
The most significant time in the Catholic Calendar. This is because it marks Christs welcome by the Christians, the institution of the Mass through the Last Supper,
"DO THIS IN MEMORY OF ME".
and Jesus's example to us to practice forgiveness to those who may betray or hurt us, his death and ultimate resurrection. All in one week!
On Palm Sunday, we celebrate the first joy of the season, as we celebrate Our Lord's triumphant entrance into Jerusalem where he was welcomed by crowds worshiping him and laying down palm leaves before him. It also marks the beginning of Holy Week, which concludes on Easter Sunday, with the greatest tragedy and sorrow of the year.
It marks the week before his death and resurrection. For many Palm Sunday, is often referred to as ‘Passion Sunday’.
Holy Thursday is the commemoration of the Last Supper of Jesus Christ, when he established the sacrament of Holy Communion prior to his arrest and crucifixion. It also commemorates His institution of the priesthood. The holy day falls on the Thursday before Easter and is part of Holy Week.
Good Friday is the day on which Catholics commemorate the crucifixion of Jesus. According to the gospels, Jesus was betrayed by Judas on the night of the Last Supper, commemorated on Holy Thursday.
Easter also called or Resurrection Sunday, is a festival and holiday celebrating the resurrection of Jesus from the dead, described in the New Testament as having occurred on the third day of his burial after his crucifixion by the Romans at Calvary. It is the culmination of the Passion of Jesus, preceded by Lent a forty-day period of fasting, prayer, and penance.
This is what Lent has been about , the preparation for Christ's death and resurrection.

Fun Friday's
Our students have discussed and decided on 4 main school rules. In order to participate in our Friday Fun afternoon, students will need to make sure they don't break any of our school rules. If a student breaks 3 rules then 3 dots will be by their name that week, which means they will have to sit out from the Friday Fun Afternoon. Teachers and myself are busy reminding all students of the agreed rules and what those rules look like in practice. Our school rules are on display in classrooms, art room and the library. Happy to say everyone is following the school rules!
Head Lice Treatment
This is a normal childhood occurance, and most children will get head lice at one point or another. We do have a case of head lice in school. Below is a link on how to treat head lice.
