Januar 2018 Edition
Brrr...... It's Cold Outside
Hopefully you are still being active INSIDE. This is a tough time of year, it's cold and hard to stay active. Believe me, I love snuggling up under a warm blanket next to the fire. Remember to help you child get 60 minutes of exercise every day.

LONG-HANDELED IMPLEMENT - FLOOR HOCKEY - 3 - 5 Grade
Our 3rd, 4th and 5th grade will have the fun pleasure of learning floor hockey skills and focus on using a long-handled implement. Our students really enjoy this unit because it's not a common activity and they have fun learning something new.

Lap Count for the rest of the year
Students can add anticipated laps on to what they currently have in our R4YL program. This gives them and idea of what mileage club they will be at by the end of the year.
Example:
21 classes to go x the # of sticks they usually get in 5:00 = laps they can earn by the end of the year
(MATH IN PE = AWESOME!)

Throwing & Catching Skills - K - 2nd Grade
Our K-2 graders need continued work on throwing and catching skills so we will once again be focusing on those movements this month. I like to do throwing and catching skills yearly as that is a movement that is used for many activities. Students will enjoy lots of different activities to practice throwing and catching skills. If you want to help your child at home, it's really important for them to practice stepping with the OPPOSITE foot of their throwing hand.
Example:
Underhand toss with RIGHT HAND - child steps with their LEFT FOOT

Locomotor SKills K - 2 Grade
Students will also be assessed on their locomotor skills this trimester such as skipping, galloping and hopping. Students will also be practicing jumping/landing for distance too. These are daily skills we practice in our warm-ups, but we also assess them each trimester.
IOWA WILD ICE HOCKEY TICKETS
I am excited to share with you that the IOWA WILD ICE HOCKEY team will be sending flyers to our school for you and your family to get discounted tickets to see an Iowa Wild Ice Hockey game this season. As soon as those flyers arrive, I will be sending them home with your child. I'll also send an e-mail with information so you know to be looking for it in your child's backpack. This will be available to ALL of our K-5 grade students.
