Week 3
Week 3 Notes
Last week, I shared that all of our classrooms start each day with a brief morning meeting. Another practice all teachers reviewed this summer and are using in their classrooms is Zones of Regulation. Zones of Regulation is a framework that helps students describe their feelings and emotions. For example the blue zone is feeling sick, down, or tired. The red zone is angry, crying, or panicking. The idea is that if students can describe their emotions, they are better able to pick a strategy to help manage their feelings and actions. All students are taught what each zone means in their Social-Emotional Learning class with Mrs. Brown-Smith, our school psychologist. Each teacher understands, and uses, the language in supporting kids.
Question of the Week
This week, I encourage you to ask your child about the Zones of Regulation. You might want to ask "What zone are you in right now?" or "What strategies do you use when you are in the yellow or red zone?" I also encourage you to carry over the zones language into your home when your child gets upset or shows anxiety.

Attendance Letters
One of the ways we will be check in with families is through attendance letters. Please do not be alarmed if you receive a letter in the mail. Attendance letters are simply designed to remind families of their rate of attendance and encourage regular attendance. They are not design to be punitive or suggest that students should come to school if they are sick. Thank you for the understanding and please reach out to Mr. Carron if you have any questions.
