Principal's Message
With a month of school and a couple of five-day weeks behind us, we are settling into routines and practices that support maximum student learning. In our first weeks of school our priority is getting to know each other, our learning environments and ourselves as students in our new grade. What comes as a benefit of this frontloading is the established setting in which great learning can take place. While the foundation is set, we continue to lean on best practices related to building and sustaining our classroom and school community each and every day. We know that it is only when we feel safe and secure in our place as students that we can achieve at our highest potential.
While we still are not back to normal, we continue a slow, steady, cautious march forward in that direction, and we'll continue to share the latest with you along the way. Classroom teachers are inviting parents to sign up for conferences, and our staff members are identifying opportunities to engage parents in in-person volunteer opportunities.
Along the way, I encourage you to check out our website and Twitter for more from in and around Haynes School!
Sincerely,
Jeff LaBroad
Principal
Interim Assistant Principal Appointment
When we asked Nixon Assistant Principal Beth Murray to step in as Interim Assistant Principal to help us launch the year in the strongest way possible, we promised her it would be a short run. Since that time, we have found that the setup has worked quite well. Mrs. Murray's ability to connect with students, staff and families alike, her organization, depth of knowledge, good humor and work ethic make her the perfect person to help lead Haynes School as we move forward through the pandemic and into ever-increasing normalcy, paired with innovative, student-centered teaching and student support.
We are pleased to share that Mrs. Murray has been appointed Interim Assistant Principal for the duration of the 2021-2022 school year. The intention is to reevaluate the position in the spring and fill the position permanently for the 2022-2023 school year. Mrs. Murray will continue as part-time Assistant Principal at Nixon School.

Revision to In-School Snack Practice beginning Tuesday
As we look to a change in seasons and the continued low incident rate of COVID in schools, we have consulted with the Sudbury Health Department regarding eating snacks inside. Given the multi-layered COVID mitigation measures currently in place across Sudbury’s elementary schools (including high rates of adult vaccination, routine COVID testing, mask-wearing and physical distancing), it is now feasible to permit students to eat morning/afternoon snack in their classrooms.
Beginning Tuesday, October 12, some classes/grades will eat snack in their classrooms under the direction of their classroom teacher. Students may be unmasked only for the time that they consume snack, and must remain seated at their desk. Students who are unmasked must be six or more feet away from the nearest unmasked individual, and three or more feet away from the nearest masked individual. All individuals will continue to be masked at all other times when indoors and not eating. Depending on schedule and age, some classes may continue to eat snack in a dedicated time/space as they currently are.
Pool Testing Moves to Tuesdays Beginning October 19
Haynes continues to lag our other schools in our rate of pool testing participation. Please click here to sign-up for COVID testing at Haynes.
