Swanson Elementary
Home of the Squirrels!
Message from the Principal
Thank you so much for sending us the great gift of all, "your child" to Swanson. 2020 has been a challenging year without a doubt, however, we are so thankful for the opportunity to be open and serve our Swanson families. A big part of being open is thanks to all of our families for adhering to our mitigation plan and staying home when feeling sick. Thank you for all you do to keep Swanson safe and health. See letter below that explains Covid 19 communication for our families in 2021.
This has been a fun filled week of reviewing our winter data in aimswebPlus and MAP. We are so proud of our little squirrels and the progress they have made with reading and math. Lot's of growth to celebrate. Keep up the great work!
We look forward to seeing everyone back in January and have prepared for another successful semester of learning.
In partnership,
Tammy Halfacre
Swanson Principal
We wish you a safe, happy and relaxing winter break, see you again January 5th, 2021!

DHSS will continue working with the district on COVID cases that arise during the break, but it's most helpful when you self report. You can report cases that occur over break to Mrs. Halfacre via email at Tammy.Halfacre@matsuk12.us or Hazel Roman O'Neill, Swanson's school's nurse at hazel.oneillroman@matsuk12.us PH # 907-861-5318
From our school family to yours, we wish you a safe, healthy and enjoyable holiday break! Staff have a work day on January 4th, we will be excited to see all of our students again on Tuesday, January 5, 2021.
COVID-19: Quarantine guidance
How is close contact defined? A close contact is someone who was within 6 feet of an infectious person for a cumulative total of 15 minutes or more over 24 hours while the person was infectious. This definition applies regardless of whether the infected person or close contacts were wearing masks. The infectious period for COVID-19 starts 2 days before the patient experiences symptoms.

Swanson Swag!
Thank you for supporting Swanson!
There will be ukulele club this year for Second graders only. We will sit six feet apart in the gym during practice. Ukulele club will be held Friday mornings before school at 8:30am. The first lesson will be Friday January 15th. Students will need their own ukulele. We will also be using Alfred’s Kid’s Ukulele course level 1. You can get it online or at Wood and Wire music store in Palmer. You will need to bring the book to every lesson. Students will perform at the spring concert if we are able to have one. There is no charge to be in ukulele club. Permission slips have been sent home. You can print one off here or email paula.berg@matsuk12.us and tell her your child is interested.

Try the Sora App through your child’s Clever login. It’s easy to use, but you might need to help your student the first time on your home device. There are hundreds of books available to read online and some audio books, too. https://docs.google.com/presentation/d/1DPiBAQ4p_ej96syw-vaECsMVybJHeEYVItUo_JoljgY/edit?usp=sharing
