STAR Testing Updates
STAR TESTING: In an effort to monitor our students’ academic growth, we administer district-wide assessments three times a year. The STAR Math and Reading test scores are included in this mailing. It is our goal to help all of our students become proficient or advanced in both math and reading. Our focus is placed on the growth we see in our students throughout the year. STAR scores are best understood by looking at the percent rank (PR). This is your student compared to all other students, nation-wide, taking this test.
*We understand that student test scores are affected by many things. We always consider the whole student when making academic recommendations.

Band News
Thanks for a great year filled with amazing concerts! The Spring Band Concert was outstanding! Job well done. Keep playing your instruments and have fun at summer band camps.
Bailey's Harbor 4th of July Parade - ALL MIDDLE SCHOOL BAND STUDENTS are invited to march in the Bailey's Harbor 4th of July parade on July 4. The time commitment on that day is from 7:30 a.m. until noon. We have two rehearsals for this parade. They are on Thursday, June 28 from 6-8 p.m. and Tuesday, July 3 from 6-8 p.m. Make one or both rehearsals. After the parade if your family stays up north for family activities, you can go with them rather than riding the bus back. The FULL information sheet is online at http://www.sturbay.k12.wi.us/schools/high/music-instrumental.cfm under 4th of July as well as is the music to download and practice in advance. This is a fun parade and the uniform is a red band t-shirt free to those who march, tennis shoes and blue or white shorts. This is a fun way to get kids to serve the community through their musical gifts. Again, all are encouraged to attend as are alumni and band friends. Hope to see you there.
Band Uniform Fittings - Band fittings for incoming freshmen will be at both registration days in the high school band room. The final date for band uniform fitting will be the night of freshmen orientation. Any student playing in band in high school should attend ONE of those dates to be fit for a band uniform. If your child is an extreme size small or large, they should attend an earlier fitting to get the best fitting uniform. At the time of their band fitting, they will also receive their pep band music packets to practice and they will take their uniform home. We are excited to welcome the 8th graders as Freshmen into the high school band program. Each uniform fitting takes 10-30 minutes. You do not need to stay for the whole time. Come whenever you can. The dates are as follows:
Thursday, August 9------------------ 1-7 p.m.
Tuesday, August 14------------------ 1-7 p.m.
Monday, August 27------------------ 4-8 p.m.
Choir News
CHICAGO TRIP:
Many thanks to the adults who helped chaperone our 7th and 8th Grade Choir trip to Chicago on May 3. We attended an impressive performance of Jesus Christ Superstar at the Lyric Opera of Chicago. Afterwards we had a chance to take in the sights in downtown Chicago and sample some real deep-dish Chicago-style pizza!
ARTIST-IN-RESIDENCE:
New York-based baritone Keith Harris spent May 21 working with our choir and theater arts students. Keith is an internationally-known operatic singer and educator. In addition to sharing his knowledge and talents with our choirs, he delighted our students by singing with them in our spring concert.
6th GRADE CHOIR TRIP:
On Friday June 1, our 6th Grade Choirs ended the year with a morning at the YMCA pool. We serenaded everyone in the lobby and at the pool, and had a great time swimming together.
LOOKING AHEAD:
City Rhythm Show Choir auditions were held on Tuesday, May 29 and were completed on Friday, June 1 for 8th graders entering high school in September. Next year’s City Rhythm roster was posted on Monday, June 4.
Students entering high school in September are invited to enroll in Theater Arts, a program similar to our own Allied Arts class, in which students take part in creating every aspect of mounting a full-length Broadway musical. Next year's show will be School of Rock!
Exciting opportunities are already in the works for next year's middle school choirs. We will welcome our new middle school choir director Amber Engelbert in September, and kick off the school year with a MS/HS Pops Concert in October.
The initial planning meeting for our June 2020 trip to SBHS Choirs New York City will be held on Tuesday, September 11 at 7:00 p.m. in the choir room. We’ll discuss the itinerary, fundraising, and other items.
