In the Classroom
Learning This Week
Reading- This week students will explore the main idea in fiction stories. The main idea is described as the big idea or what the story is mostly about. By the end of first grade, students should be able to describe the main topic and idea using key details in the story.
Writing- This week students will review writing write narrative stories about themselves. We will continue to focus on important parts, such as including a beginning, middle, and end, an interesting sentence to begin, transition words, punctuation, and capitalization. By the end of first grade students should be able to write narrative stories with sequenced events, details, transitional words, and a closure.
Math- Students will continue to compare 2-digit numbers, add a 2-digit and 1-digit number, and add multiples of 10. By the end of first grade, students should be able to add 10 to a 2-digit number, add a 2-digit number and a 1-digit number, and add multiples of 10.
Science- This week students will learn about the work and influence of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
