Prepare for the Future
Blended Learning for Class of 2020
Dear Students and Parents/Guardians of the Class of 2020,
Ensuring the success of our students at the postsecondary level is among the highest priorities for Millard educators. We believe that preparing students for success in a digital learning environment is an important part of that preparation, and to that end, we are excited to announce the addition of three blended courses starting in August of 2019. The three courses will be U.S. Government/Economics, College Algebra, and College Writing.
Blended learning courses adhere to the Board approved curriculum, and students will participate in the designated benchmark assessments for these courses. Each blended learning course integrates both traditional face-to-face learning with a classroom teacher and online independent learning components. This combination offers students more flexibility in meeting course standards and provides teachers with greater ability to tailor instruction to meet the needs of each student.
When students in the blended learning course are not in the classroom, they will have many options for how to spend their independent learning time: staying on campus to work independently or collaboratively OR working off-campus. This combination of in-class and independent learning time allows students greater control over the pace, place, and path for completing their coursework for the blended course. Whether on or off campus, students are responsible for following all school policies and procedures as listed in the Student Handbook during independent learning periods.
Please click on the FAQ link for more information about blended learning in Millard Public Schools.
Currently, you are registered for one, two or all three of the courses being offered utilizing the blended learning method or traditional method. If you are interested in enrolling in a blended course for next year, please click on this LINK and submit your responses before April 15th. If there are more students interested than available seats, we will use a lottery system to select students. Students will be notified by May 1st about the selection of placement into a blended course.
We hope that you share our excitement as we implement our blended courses and strive to continually improve the educational experience of our students. If you have any further questions regarding blended learning courses or school procedures, please contact me at 402-715-8268 or hweaver@mpsomaha.org.
Sincerely,
