Attendance Reminder
PARENTS: PLEASE CALL TO REPORT ABSENCES
Please remember that we need a call each day your student is absent. Our attendance number is 317.838.3945. The attendance line is available 24 hours a day. Feel free to leave a voicemail with a reason for the absence.
If you are picking your student up, please bring in your ID. We will have to check your ID every time you come into the building, per our safety protocol.
A note from Mrs. Wallon!
We are in the swing of the 2018-2019 school year. I hope that you and your student have settled in and are having a good year. Here are a few notes from the Nurse.
1. If your student has a medical condition or something develops during the school year and you aren’t sure if I am aware, please contact me by phone (317-838-3950) or by email (swallon@plainfield.k12.in.us). Plainfield Middle School does our best to accommodate everyone.
2. I will contact a parent to get permission each time I give a student medication from our school supply (ex: Acetaminophen or Ibuprofen). If you prefer, you may provide that medication in the original container with a note from a parent. Your child may then come for the medication whenever they wish. You would not receive notification that they are taking it.
3. The required immunizations for incoming 6th graders are the Tdap (Tetanus & Pertussis); the Hepatitis A (2 dose series) and the MCV4 (Meningococcal). When your student gets ANY new vaccines, please send documentation in so that the records can be updated. All immunization records must be up to date by September 28, 2018, to avoid exclusion from school.
4. Please notify the guidance office any time that contact numbers change. We need accurate phone numbers to reach you in case of an emergency.
5. Please report your child’s absence at the beginning of the day to our attendance clerk, Mrs. Bennett at (317)838-3945.
IDEA Lab fun!
Intro to the Idea Lab!
By: Jake Apollos
Idea Lab Coordinator
Already this year we have seen teachers expanding on lessons taught in their classrooms in the past and many trying brand new ideas for the first time! In Biology students have created stop motion animations to show the relationships between enzymes & substrates. In English classes, students are experiencing the freedom & rewards that come with pursuing Passion Projects! We have built newspaper forts (and torn them down), designed shoes from cardboard, and learned all about lab safety in some “explosive” ways! In each project students experienced the fun in collaboration, trial & error, and true learning!
The best part...there’s more yet to come! Plans continue to grow for many projects across the school & subject areas. Social studies classes are working on an Africa unit that will include guest speakers, African Masks, students as teachers, and even a possible community night! Art classes are pushing for a community beautification project to put student art in our parks & trails. Seventh grade English classes are working to learn about proper tea party etiquette in order to host their own “tea parties” to better connect with their Alice in Wonderland unit. Enriched seventh science students are even planning to work on analyzing the traffic patterns of student pick up/drop off! They will be using aerial drone footage to identify possible problem areas around the school! Mistakes will be made, but that’s exactly where authentic learning takes place! We expect these types of projects to continue to grow and develop as our understanding of 3D printing, vinyl cutting, AV equipment/editing, etc… continues to grow! Welcome to the IDEALab, where ideas come to life!
