WJHS Students are Exploring Careers with Virtual Reality
7th & 8th graders at WJHS can use virtual reality to discover a wide array of career possibilities and make informed choices about their future careers using a program called Transfr.
Transfr provides VR simulations that are designed by industry experts to ensure an accurate portrayal of different occupations. Each simulation offers students a hands-on encounter with an actual task from a prospective career, while giving students insights into the skills that will be required to succeed in the role.
Transfr’s immersive learning experiences aid students in delving into diverse career clusters and industries, providing insights into the daily responsibilities within each occupation.
Washington Community Schools is dedicated to giving students opportunities to explore future careers and discover as they build upon their career interests to make meaningful choices for their HS class selection in one of the Pathways offered in the WHS College & Career Academy.
Exploring the Eclipse
Mrs. Dubon-Ayala has been exploring the upcoming eclipse in her art classes at Washington Veale Elementary and Washington Intermediate!
Students studied the artist Alma Thomas, who is famous for her artwork depicting an eclipse, and then created their own.
Student Spotlight - Landyn Shanklin
We are shining a spotlight on WHS sophomore Landyn Shanklin!
As a sophomore, Landyn earned a spot to perform at the ISSMA State Solo & Ensemble Festival this past weekend. At Solo & Ensemble, students perform professional-level pieces of music for judges and are graded against a rubric.
Students with the highest scores can earn a Gold Rating. The piece of music Landyn performed is an upper-level collegiate alto saxophone solo. Landyn earned a Gold Rating, with Distinction, and a perfect score! This is a very rare accomplishment.
On top of being an exceptional musician, Landyn also regularly works one-on-one with the junior high band students.
Congratulations to Landyn on your dedication and success! We look forward to watching your musicianship & leadership grow! With Pride!
