Cel Animation
About Cel Animation
A cel, short for celluloid, is a transparent sheet that can be drawn and painted on. With the use of computer animation becoming more popular recently cel animation is very rarely used now. Disney studios stopped using cels in 1990 because Computer Animation had replaced this process. Cel animation works by drawing the character over a static background drawing. This reduces the amount of times the character has to be redrawn. This technique was made by Earl Hud who patented it in 1914.
