Weekly Update
September 13, 2019
This week at school . . . . .
The past 12 days have been exhilarating as we have welcomed new and returning students to the 2019-20 school year. The various activities and events have allowed our young men to form relationships with each other and our outstanding faculty, which will continue to flourish in the months and years ahead. I was very proud of our faculty who all spent the evening sharing our hopes, aspirations and expectations with parents last evening at the Back-to-School annual ritual, meeting and greeting parents and going over course syllabi.
Here are a few questions and answers that I fielded at the end of Back-to-School night:
1. Can I have a copy of the Daily Schedule for my child? Yes, we have an updated version of the daily schedule for the boys and will post it on the parents page of the website Monday. Keep in mind that for any given day, we may have circumstances that require the schedule to be modified.
2. What is the House System? We are in the second week of establishing a house system. This will provide opportunities for boys in all grades to work on projects, compete and enjoy each other’s company as a member of a multi-grade House. The boys are working on developing norms, names, patron saints, shields, mottos and customs for their individual houses. Your boy’s house also serves as a repository of points for all the good behaviors members of the house have exhibited over time. More to come.
A special thank you to our 5th Grade families who, on behalf of the Parent Guild, organized a wonderful welcome back Cook-out at Danehey Park last Sunday. It was a lovely afternoon, and all had a great time. Special thanks to our ever-present Dianne Flaherty for all the behind the scenes organization as well as for taking pictures and posting news of the event on Facebook. If you are not following us on Facebook, please do and visit it often to keep abreast of day to day events and news from the school.
Finally, we will be publishing and sharing the 2019-20 version of the SPCS Handbook next week. You will receive a form to complete and sign that acknowledges you and your son have read key parts via email on the same day. You will find more complete information on many features of the musical and academic program as well as updates/revisions/additions to any policies and procedures that were made since last year. Please enjoy it and refer to it when you have questions. A copy will be posted on the Parent section of our website for ready access.
Thank you, Tom
